A5 Desert soils are super fragile with cryptobiotic crusts. That means we really have to watch our footsteps to avoid crushing these living soils that take forever to regrow. #parkchat

A5: These "ice" formations are actually salt crystals from evaporated water at the Great Salt Lake. Fragile to the touch and at the mercy of the rising water. #parkchat @UtahStateParks @UtahDWR @GreatSaltLakeSP

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute #parkchat A4 not sure which is more out of place. Lake Michigan or the Sand Dunes at @SleepingBearNPS. Not really a desert but. ๐Ÿ˜‰

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4 #ParkChat the Bonneville Salt Flats! Water in salty basins like that is insane, it's like a mirror. Salton Sea is pretty cool too

A6 BLM lands are much less visited (no footprints & no others than our party at the Cadiz Sand Dunes, Mojave Trails National Monument) and there are fewer restrictions on camping than in national parks #parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A6) I visited Red Rock Canyon National Conservan Area near Las Vegas, its a unique situation where the scenic drive & visitors center is run by the Association which allows the BLM do what they do best, patrol and protect the whole area. #ParkChat

A7. We loved seeing kit foxes and jackrabbits in @DeathValleyNPS. And I always hope to run into snakes in the desert, like this bull snake in El Malpais NM. No zoom! #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A7. Well there was this incredibly rare Giant Tortoise at Arizona's Sonoran Desert Museum (which is a really great place to visit in its own right if you want to see desert wildlife) #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute Once called The Great American Desert. Stella Lake at @GreatBasinNPS doesnโ€™t belong in the desert does it? #ParkChat
