Q4. Water is precious in the Desert. What body of water or water feature seemingly doesn’t fit in the Desert or is just so spectacularly perfect, it stands out? #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4 #Parkchat The Salton Sea. I could see it from the Pacific Crest Trail last month (about 60 miles away) Definitely odd.

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4: When explorers first reached the Great Salt Lake, they thought they found the Pacific ocean. I grew up not far from it but hardly ever go there. Its size is always a surprise. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4) There's Montezuma Well near Sedona Arizona where there was an infamous tripping involving myself and @59NationalParks in 2017. 🙄 #ParkChat

A4. How about a huge lake in one of the driest places in the world, Death Valley National Park? BTW, not something you'll see every day! #parkchat

A4 Anybody been on the Smith Spring trail @GuadalupeMtnsNP? Now that's an unexpected bit of water, with an even more little unexpected hardwood forest around it #parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4. Not quite the answer you were going for, but--last year I drove across the Great Basin desert in Nevada. I saw my first water mirage. I kept thinking I should be reaching that water, where I would look for birds, and was fooled. Just like I had always read about. #parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute #parkchat A4 not sure which is more out of place. Lake Michigan or the Sand Dunes at @SleepingBearNPS. Not really a desert but. 😉

A4. The Mojave River in California's high desert. It runs just below ground much of the time, but you can track it by its cottonwoods. In Hesperia & Victorville area it runs above ground. In one big storm in the 1930 its flow almost reached Death Valley. #ParkChat
