Deserts
ParkChat

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur @59NationalParks @TRooseveltNPS I was thinking about Badlands and Theo Roosevelt parks earlier and whether they qualified as deserts. I really don’t know. Could be dry prairie. An interesting dilemma. #ParkChat

replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer @Wild_Tribute I’ll guess I’ll have to borrow that when I see you! #parkchat

RT @59NationalParks: Q3 #ParkChat I think our Desert Parks are glorious places. Do you enjoy exploring deserts? Why are you attracted? Na…

replying to @TheDetourEffect @TheDetourEffect I remember that episode. They are all over Arizona. #ParkChat

Hello, old friends, @59NationalParks, @Stars252525, @t_jh2009, and others. I jumped on @Twitter and saw Q1 of #ParkChat and couldn’t resist!
Hope everyone is doing very well!

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A3: There is not enough space in one tweet. Deserts have intrigued and inspired me since I first visited one. The landscape, the specific rock formations, the views, the history. The feeling of being alone. #ParkChat

replying to @unconpeace @unconpeace I was thinking about her--have her book of essays on the desert. But I think of it as an historical artifact as much as a book. Ed Abbey said to just read "Land of Little Rain." Which I did. #ParkChat

A3. The Desert is what drew us to our home...SLC. “Only place in the world type places” #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A3 I do! We tend to head to mountains so a desert park is so different. Love love @SaguaroNPS and those beautiful cacti. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A2: Without question, my answer is @TempestWilliams. I especially recommend her books Red and An Unspoken Hunger as exceptional desert writings. And we have the benefit of her living voice now. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute @beckyjlomax Agree. #ParkChat You know a twitter convo I was having once about Georgia O’Keefe led to a reply from @GeraldoRivera True story. #MyBrushWithGreatness

A3) We love a good winter or spring desert exploration our vote is for @JoshuaTreeNPS ! #Parkchat #travel #desert #JoshuaTree

replying to @mjn126 @mjn126 @59NationalParks May we add the uncanny Desert silence? #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @Wild_Tribute @TempestWilliams Great choice! #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A3: I wasn’t sure how I would feel about @PetrifiedNPS maybe it didn’t have much to offer. WRONG. So much history there and that’s what I connected with. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute Definite Juan Bautista de Anza who led a band of settlers across the desert southwest on what we now call the @AnzaTrailNPS to settle San Francisco. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A3 #parkchat Having grown up in Canada the desert is very foreign and remote. I’m getting the chance to explore some of SoCal’s desert but would really love to see the parks in Utah.

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A3: Is "all of the parks in Utah are glorious desert landscapes" a proper answer? #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks #parkchat A3 I think we are intreagued by deserts because they are so different from our mountain pine forests. Totally awesome.

A3. I'll take the Sonoran, Chihuahuan, Great Basin, and Mojave. Any sites, really. I've loved everywhere I've been in the Southwest. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute @59NationalParks And the way the wind sounds so different than through trees or across a prairie. it's just so unique. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A3 Want to spend more time at @DeathValleyNPS during a cooler time than July. What were we thinking. #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr A sign from a campground we once stayed at. Mrs 59 refused to walk the dogs there. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks Oh great...that's where I'm moving to next week lol. I think my paranoia of them is probably not proportional to the threat but those TV shows get me man #ParkChat

A3 A desert is like a canvas which we paint with our minds; it is a reminder of mortality and fragility, a place where the interdependence of life is made manifest #parkchat

Q4. Water is precious in the Desert. What body of water or water feature seemingly doesn’t fit in the Desert or is just so spectacularly perfect, it stands out? #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A3) Whenever I'm in Sedona I feel that I need to touch bases with the Desert Parks nearby, Montezuma Castle, Toozigut, Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki National Monuments as well as Grand Canyon National Park. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks
@59NationalParks A1: Scorpions! They are crazy. #parkchat
& had a way too close Rattler run in in Kings Canyon—scary!!
But still, I love those desert parks.

Okay...who is that young man that disappeared into the desert SW...I am drawing a blank #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A3 #parkchat Honestly, the best desert areas are definitely the ones outside of national parks.

replying to @coasthikergirl @59NationalParks A3 con’t #parkchat I also want to get to Craters of the Moon NM. It’s not too far away from home.

A3 @CanyonlandsNPS has always been one of my fave desert parks. for backpacking The Maze, hiking The Needles, and biking The White Rim. Not as crowded either as neighboring Arches. #parkchat
Biking White Rim.

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4: Reservoirs behind damns. so out of place. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A3 And I'll tell you one more thing I love. The smell of rain in the desert. Wish I could bottle it. #ParkChat

replying to @ParksandPoints @ParksandPoints @JoshuaTreeNPS Great place. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Stars252525 I figured it would take a while for you to look it up #parkchat

replying to @mjn126 @mjn126 @Wild_Tribute @59NationalParks Or the wind through the needles of a Saguaro? Yes, that’s a thing. #parkchat

A3 Because of the desert's sparse vegetation, the landforms are totally revealed like the bare bones of the earth #parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute @TheDetourEffect @59NationalParks They're the hidden fear. The last element on the list if you encounter the elusive mountain lion is always "fight back", the hidden fear. #parkchat

replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer Unfortunately, I dropped it right on my foot. Ow. #parkchat

replying to @RCGibby73 @RCGibby73 @PetrifiedNPS We’d love to spend some more time there. #ParkChat
