replying to @Stars252525 @Stars252525 @59NationalParks Gah. My partner drives most of it, too! Sometimes Iβd get clammy hands on dirt roads with steep drop offs and the road seems sooo skinny πππ #parkchat

replying to @BarnetteJason
@BarnetteJason @Wild_Tribute Wait until you do Florida or Delaware.
And let me know when you do Denali or Rainier. #parkchat

replying to @carfreerunner @carfreerunner @59NationalParks I'm fine climbing up and down ladders. It's just that transfer to and especially from the roof that gets me. Think I just don't trust myself to not kick out from under me. Ha! #parkchat

A8 On the (aptly named) Devil's Path in the Catskills on a hot, humid day, I started cramping up when I got to my 4th summit of the day, medics had to come and give me an IV - now I make sure to get plenty of electrolites #parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A5 The Crater Glacier in Mt. St. Helens - it's an actively growing, low elevation glacier inside a volcano! #parkchat

replying to @purpleosh @purpleosh @naturetechfam Had to reschedule our JMT trip from July to September this year ;) #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A7) #ParkChat Again, Mauna Kea because the #STARS! I wish I had the Hard Drive hooked up with some of the photos, I will share this one from the primitive campground in @Volcanoes_NPS instead #Stars #MilkyWay #nightphotography

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A8 I've been caught in storms before. Lightning terrifies me. #ParkChat

replying to @Polymathically @Polymathically @Wild_Tribute And Huyana Picchu has one of craziest trails for climbing. What a hoot. #parkchat

replying to @wander_filled @wander_filled @ZionNPS #ParkChat is a G-rated chat. π

A8 Always pay attention to the weather and be sure to take the 10 essentials. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute It is a requirement! And Red Lodge on the other side is a beautiful little town! π #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A8: No jams thankfully, i bring the 10 essentials with me in case of emergencies and if hiking exposed I know my best way to the tree line #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A8) We're really cautious about severe weather in the mountains when out hiking, a childhood friend was stuck and killed by lightning the Rockies during afternoon clouds. It does happen. #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A8) Call me silly but I like to check the areas websites about the current situation & possible dangers then follow up with the Rangers when I get there. #ParkChat

replying to @naturetechfam @naturetechfam @59NationalParks @BadlandsNPS They just put those up to keep tourists on trail. #parkchat

A8. Very few things are more frightening than being in the high country exposed to extreme weather. The mountains always win. Best lesson you can remember. #ParkChat

replying to @rscottjones @rscottjones @Wild_Tribute I think the highest point in Florida is something like 300'. I had no idea any point of the state was that high. That'll be nice real estate in about 20 years. #ParkChat

replying to @Polymathically @Wild_Tribute A7: The highest I've gone is Tambomachay, just outside of Cusco. It's a little over 12,000 feet, and is the site of ancient ruins. https://t.co/yVGaZL5TYu #ParkChat

replying to @wander_filled @wander_filled @ZionNPS Be sure to do Angelβs Landing. Itβs incredibly fun. #ParkChat

replying to @purpleosh @purpleosh @59NationalParks Doesn't even phase my hubs! I've been known to lean toward the middle of the truck like that will help! #ParkChat

Q9. A name can really add to the grandeur of a mountain. Do you have a favorite? Name it. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks #parkchat A8 bear spray and the 10 essentials make us feel prepared. But then we get out 3 miles and have a child meltdown. Only way to prepare for that is tons of candy and snacks! π

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks Yes. It is scary. But we keep going back to climb it. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A8. All of our mountain hikes have been fairly short on so-called easy trails. Now in city parks ... my dog pulled me down a rather steep hill and I had taken no precautions. Bruised my hip but otherwise OK. #parkchat

replying to @WeekendWomanWar @WeekendWomanWar The electrolites, you mean? Gatorade, Clif bars, and those little peanut butter sandwich crackers #parkchat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @Wild_Tribute I know, I was *really* tempted to do that. But it was pouring down rain when I got there, and I didn't like my chances. #ParkChat

replying to @BarnetteJason @BarnetteJason @rscottjones @Wild_Tribute I'm thinking about doing that in the NE, especially with two of the tallest done. #parkchat

replying to @BarnetteJason
@BarnetteJason @Wild_Tribute Just over 300', there's an entire park celebrating it. Though the actual USGS markers are scattered around, incl in a nearby trailer park (Florida, amirite?).
Delaware's is literally chipping out of the sidewalk in a neighborhood. You can sign the register at a home. #parkchat

replying to @naturetechfam @naturetechfam @BadlandsNPS Itβs Shelly who is deathly afraid of snakes. Iβm more of a #SnakeWhisperer #ParkChat

replying to @hugosposts @hugosposts @Wild_Tribute In Death Valley terms I guess one would say that it's close. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute Electric Peak in Yellowstone just sounds so damn cool. π #FindYourPark #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A8 One time I got turned around while travelling cross country, and I ended up descending a series of gullies and ledges at dusk. The last stretch involved sliding down a steep granite slope and jumping the gully at the bottom onto a boulder! #ParkChat

A9 Nippletop, in the Adirondacks. It's not even Nippletop Mountain or Nippletop Peak. Just Nippletop. #parkchat

replying to @mtmagog @mtmagog @59NationalParks @SouthernerSays @Wild_Tribute Uhm. I was born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains. I know a thing or two about them. #ParkChat

A8 we carry a bell with us. Bears scare me the most but pop up storms and lightning scares me too. The only jam and it wasn't really a jam was the storm that we had last summer in Big Bend. We thought our tent was going to blow away w us in it. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A9: Though not in a Park, The Presidential Peaks in the Whites reek of grandeur #ParkChat

replying to @rscottjones
@rscottjones @Wild_Tribute On Woodall Mountain in Mississippi there was a mailbox with a log inside that visitors could sign. That's it. That's all there was.
I can't wait to visit the one in Delaware now! #ParkChat

replying to @markfire @markfire @rscottjones @Wild_Tribute I KNEW it had "hill" in the name! At least they didn't try to pretend it was a mountain. In Florida. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A8 #parkchat Nearly got hit my lightning my second backpacking trip on the ridgeline of Kendrick Peak in N AZ. Fire lookout ranger watched strikes all around us, said he was worried the next morning. At one point, my hair all stood up on end and I thought we were toast. #parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A7. I have been birding in Ecuador a couple times. There were van trips to Papallacta Pass, in the Andes. Pass elevation is about 14,000 ft. Probably the highest pt. I've been. Amazing scenery, great birds, terrible weather. I'd go back right now, if I could. #parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute #parkchat A9 Electric Peak near Gardiner, MT, @YellowstoneNPS. Wins its name daily.
