replying to @RCGibby73 @RCGibby73 @59NationalParks @aubreylenae16 @Wild_Tribute Hi #ParkChat people

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A1 Honestly, I never thought about being a #NationalPark Ranger. But I always kinda thought they were all big, burly, and bearded. Kinda like this...#ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @aubreylenae16 @Wild_Tribute Greetings #ParkChat from #Carmel where I just returned from the #MissionRanch after visiting with a few old & new acquaintances.

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @aubreylenae16 @Wild_Tribute I was so bummed about missing you. And sorry you got walloped with super cold temps. #ParkChat

A1) Ranger Smith and Ranger Rick were two favorites from childhood, but I guess they are not real rangers...:( Though they left a good impression, even being fictional characters. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A1. I actually liked the idea of being an ECO. In hindsight, either an ECO or Ranger should've been the path I took. My daughter (8) has expressed interest in being a Ranger. #ParkChat

A1 I did consider being a park ranger; I discovered the joy of our National Parks when I was about 11. I did meet a park ranger once. I'm still traumatized. #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A1 Can't say I gave it any thought, or had much awareness of them. Once my 20s rolled around tho. #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A1 Oh yes. A ranger at @CavernsNPS was so sweet to this gawky, shy kid and impressed me greatly. Used his flashlight to show me things and wowed me. #ParkChat

replying to @ParksandPoints @ParksandPoints Man, you hit the nail on the head here. Ranger Rick was amazing, and who doesn’t like Yogi? #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A1: My only connection to Nature as a young kid was through the World Wildlife Magazine my grandmother subscribed me to, so Ranger Rick was the only Park Ranger I knew of. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks #parkchat A1 never thought much of it as a kid. But these days it sounds like a great job! 😁

replying to @mdeichlerauthor @mdeichlerauthor My last summer in high school I applied for a job as a Teen Ranger at my local state park, but I didn't get the job. I thought it would have been the BEST way to spend my summer. #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @59NationalParks @aubreylenae16 Wouldn’t be the true YNP winter experience without, right? #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks Hi everyone! A1: never crossed my mind as a child. I only saw them as state park campground rule enforcers. I have learned a lot from my younger days. #parkchat

replying to @RockyTopSkiBum @RockyTopSkiBum @59NationalParks @aubreylenae16 @Wild_Tribute Nice #ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr In fact, when I first met Mr PLL I thought he must remind visitors to put litter in trash cans and not feed the squirrels. And then I saw his gas mask! #ParkChat

replying to @RoadTripsCoffee @RoadTripsCoffee Funny. I thought the same thing. #ParkChat Sir is this your first time chatting with us?

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A1. I didn’t meet many Park Rangers as a kid but met many from the US Forest Service. Always thought they were very cool. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute Totally was / is! We also wanted to visit Jellystone (and a slight bit disappointment when Yellowstone didn't quite turn out to be the same as it's fictional counterpart) #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A1) #Parkchat I would still love to be a Park Ranger! As a child, they did inspire me early on, I remember them knowing so much about Nature, being friendly and listening to me as a young National Park Enthusiast, I realized there were others who cared about the land like I did

Q2 #ParkChat Park rangers do a variety of things to keep parks, refuges, monuments, etc. operating! Maintenance, law enforcement, interpretation, natural resource management, education, administration, and more! What type of ranger do you think you'd like to be and why?

replying to @unconpeace @unconpeace Did you leave food out? It attracts us every time #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @aubreylenae16 @Wild_Tribute We’re ready for the cold. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute @59NationalParks @aubreylenae16 So true. A real winter Yellowstone adventure has weather all over the spectrum. #ParkChat

replying to @RCGibby73 @RCGibby73 @59NationalParks Pretty much same story here. Oh how the tables turn. Funny how it all works and comes together #ParkChat

replying to @aubreylenae16 @aubreylenae16 OOOOH. I'd love to focus on maintenance, interpretation, and/or education. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A1. Of course I wanted to be one. I never got to meet one as a child since I never got to visit a park, but I could read about them. And TV--I loved Nat Geo specials. I was fascinated by the Craigheads. I thought they were doing ranger stuff. I wanted to be a Craighead.#parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A1) It wasn't a Park Ranger but a Forest Ranger that was one of the occupations along with a fireman & train engineer that I wanted to be when I was a child. #ParkChat

RT @aubreylenae16: Q2 #ParkChat Park rangers do a variety of things to keep parks, refuges, monuments, etc. operating! Maintenance, law enf…

A2: Interpretation or Education--I love sharing the stories of a place and helping people understand what makes that location important or unique #ParkChat

replying to @aubreylenae16 @aubreylenae16 A2: definitely education for those junior rangers. Teaching is in my blood! #parkchat

replying to @RoadTripsCoffee @RoadTripsCoffee @mdeichlerauthor What did you do instead? #ParkChat

replying to @aubreylenae16 @aubreylenae16 A2) We'd probably be the interpretation ranger, we love to learn and tell stories! #ParkChat

replying to @aubreylenae16 @aubreylenae16 #parkchat A2 a park paleontologist @badlandsnps comes to mind! Or an interpreter working w student groups would be right up my alley.

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks Why yes! Yes it is! I slew that other guy who used to call himself Southeastern Traveler and took his place. Admit it. You like me better. #ParkChat

replying to @aubreylenae16 @aubreylenae16 A2 I’d probably opt to be an interp ranger in park education. Would love doing both kid and adult programs. #ParkChat

RT @aubreylenae16: Q2 #ParkChat Park rangers do a variety of things to keep parks, refuges, monuments, etc. operating! Maintenance, law enf…

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @aubreylenae16 @Wild_Tribute Bit late but joining in! Filled out my GRCA paperwork today, still looking like that’s the place :) #ParkChat
replying to @aubreylenae16 @aubreylenae16 a2 I would be the PR Ranger guy - giving directions, offering tips for park success, taking selfies with tourists - ya know important stuff like that...#parkchat

replying to @aubreylenae16 @aubreylenae16 A2: I would want to design and implement #jrranger programs and then be the one to swear in all the new jr rangers. #parkchat

replying to @aubreylenae16 @aubreylenae16 A2 I always wanted to be in interpretation. Please don't ask me to save people from a bear or an angry bull elk tho. #ParkChat

RT @59NationalParks: Welcome to a special “The Ranger Life” edition of #ParkChat featuring @aubreylenae16. Expressions of gratitude permit…

replying to @aubreylenae16 @aubreylenae16 A2. The rangers that stand out to me are the ones that interact with me, whether greeting me around the park entrance, leading a hike, or just out and about somewhere on a park trail. I guess I'd be ok in most any roll that lets me help others enjoy the park. #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @mdeichlerauthor Lied to my parents that I was doing tutoring of middle school students, and instead snuck off to hike day trips on the Appalachian Trail. #ParkChat

replying to @aubreylenae16 @aubreylenae16 A2: Educational and interpretation for sure. I love History and passing that on to others would be awesome #ParkChat

A2 Great question. I would be one of those hermit rangers that man the fire towers or something. #parkchat
