Social Media and Parks
ParkChat
A2. Yes! We used social media a ton to plan our huge West Coast Road Trip!
We used @YouTube for hiking trails, @instagram for the key spots and places to visit and @Twitter to bounce ideas off others and get feedback! šš¼ #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2 I really don't, but I will say I have seen places here on #ParkChat that I will visit in the future.
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2: Well I do draw inspiration from various sites to plan future trips but I also have an idea where I want to visit anyhow. Sometimes itās a YouTube hiking video that sparks an adventure #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2. I follow the twitter accounts of National Parks that we're visiting. That's how we found out which apple tree groves were open in @CapitolReefNPS this fall, and that roads in @BryceCanyonNPS were closed for snow. #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2 hey Iām going to SD Natl parks w my 1 yr old son in May. Any road trip suggestions with a one year old? š #parkchat
A2. Short answer, no. But I might reach out to certain friends on social media for advice, like asking @RCGibby73, @Stars252525, and @kristarsha about visiting @BigBendNPS (hopefully this November!). #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2. No, but I have been getting g ideas and tips here most Wednesday nights. #parkchat
A2 Okay ironically, compared to my previous answer, I use Instagram to discover amazing places to visit in the national parks. The difference with me, though, is I plan to enjoy my time at the scenic spot. #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2. It helps put parks on my radar of places Iād like to see, but usually once I make a decision I mostly just rely on that parkās social media pages #ParkChat

A2 Not really, but maybe the Mrs does sometimes. She's liked probably every NP Facebook page #parkchat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2) Yes, we love to use social media to plan our parks trips, #parkchat is a great source of help, as are the many other orgs that you can query or find helpful tips.
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2) Yes! Hubs surprised me with a trip to @JoshuaTreeNPS and I asked the #ParkChat for help planning and had the whole trip planned in 30 minutes!
A2: I haven't explicitly used social media to plan any national park trips, but I certainly follow accounts from parks leading up to my trip to learn about what to see/do there besides what I've read in guidebooks or online. #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud @RoadTripsCoffee A2 I use personal connections with people to get some insider tidbits for planning NP trips, but I wonāt take random social media advice without additional research to verify the validity of their suggestions. Too many people spouting bad facts. #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2 Totally! Our recent trips to California were all about reading reviews and seeing sights online first. #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud #parkchat A2 definitely! This chat crowd has the BEST info. And @instagram inspired us, even with the same 1000 photos of Horseshoe Bend. Lol
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2) No, I too darn old to let social media have that much power in my life though I will use to show travel photos to family and friends. #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2. Absolutely. Guilty as charged. It kind of encourages me when people (family especially) want to live vicariously through my travel posts. #parkchat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2: Not really, I usually just Google destinations and go from there. I'll follow the parks' social media pages for info, safety, conditions, etc. #ParkChat

A2 #parkchat I donāt use social media to plan trips, but I do use it immediately prior and during my visit (where possible) for current info on things that could impact my visit, such as gate closures, road conditions, wildlife or geyser activity, etc.

replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2 #parkchat Not really. Maps and the national park websites are the best resources. Most of the social media I notice around parks focuses on the already popular places that everyone already knows about.
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2: Americaās National Parks FB group is s great resource. @AbigailTrabue We got snowed out in Arizona and the group helpme figure out last minute backup plan. #parkchat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2: Yes, but as a companion to other planning tools and mostly to get key tips from folks who I know have experiences in the area where I'll be visiting. #ParkChat
