replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud Yes cause I hate talking to people on the phone ;) Do enough of that at work. #Parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks
@59NationalParks A1 people needing to get that "PERFECT" shot. which means they have to go into a protected area. it is hard for people to understand that dirt can actually be endangered
#ButItsDirt? #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @tthrash @Wild_Tribute Haha my apologies! I took it as a compliment! ššš¼ #ParkChat

replying to @theRangerLife @theRangerLife @59NationalParks That happens to me as well! It gets the best of us! #Parkchat

replying to @Adventuringgal @Adventuringgal @TouringTastebud @59NationalParks @Wild_Tribute Oh yeah, it could be a couple of months before its completed unless I hire someone. #ParkChat

A2. Yes! We used social media a ton to plan our huge West Coast Road Trip!
We used @YouTube for hiking trails, @instagram for the key spots and places to visit and @Twitter to bounce ideas off others and get feedback! šš¼ #ParkChat

replying to @StevenOnTheMove @StevenOnTheMove I don't entirely disagree, but does it have to be either/or. I think people travel for the experience and education, and memorializing that on social media has become part of that process for many people. Maybe it's more about the balance. #ParkChat

replying to @Stars252525 @Stars252525 Iām still miffed about selfies at Pearl Harbor. Hey kids. Itās not about you. #ParkChat

RT @59NationalParks: Q1 #ParkChat Thereās no question social media has helped to drive the increase in Park attendance. We believe itās anā¦

replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2 I really don't, but I will say I have seen places here on #ParkChat that I will visit in the future.
replying to @ParksandPoints @ParksandPoints @NatlParkService Had to re-read...thought that Edison's social media manger died...thinking how tragic and whether it was by electrocution. #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @theRangerLife Yes! I think people are taking too many risks to get that perfect image! #ParkChat

replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2: Well I do draw inspiration from various sites to plan future trips but I also have an idea where I want to visit anyhow. Sometimes itās a YouTube hiking video that sparks an adventure #ParkChat

A1. I think I noticed the phenomenon @RoadTripsCoffee talks about at Itasca state park last summer. I never remember the Mississippi headwaters being so crowded. I was like, get me outta here! #ParkChat

RT @t_jh2009: @59NationalParks A1) Selfies or photos of people at various spots in the parks that at times can be quite dangerous to be atā¦

replying to @ParksandPoints @ParksandPoints @NatlParkService A ranger at GSMNP once told me the task of Social Media Manager was tossed around like a hot coal because nobody actually wanted the job. I'm not sure if that is a full-time position at any national park. #ParkChat

replying to @InnerCompass @InnerCompass, I believe this question has your name on it. :-) #ParkChat https://t.co/ab4TBcNLFb

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks #parkchat A1 people getting way too close to wildlife. Don't go to @YellowstoneNPS if all you have is a phone camera, people. #bisonselfie

RT @Stars252525: @59NationalParks A1 I think people are instagramming (that's a word) beautiful spots to death. Oh, let me add idiot selfieā¦

RT @TouringTastebud: Q2. Do you use social media to plan National Park trips?
#ParkChat https://t.co/0X8mvI8fkr

replying to @ParasolViatress @ParasolViatress So true that is a huge issue! They would rather look at a camera then at the sights! #ParkChat

replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer What?! You mean you weren't so thrilled to be "wherever" that you jumped for joy?! #ParkChat #sarcasm

replying to @hkergrrl @hkergrrl Probably right. Just no photos of the behavior. #ParkChat

RT @RCGibby73: @59NationalParks A1: Well for starters, those ādoing it for the āgramā, going into restricted or off Trail areas to get clicā¦

RT @theRangerLife: @59NationalParks A1. It drives many visitors to do dangerous actions to capture a photo. For me personally it unfortunatā¦

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Stars252525 I took a selfie at Pearl. I work on a ship named after a man who was there and have met 7 survivors. I didn't smile...but I wanted to commemorate my being there. #parkchat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @59NationalParks @TouringTastebud Rain and wind here and evidently a cyclone bomb on the way. Ha! #ParkChat

replying to @happytrailshike @happytrailshike @59NationalParks So true Happy! Great point! A lot of people have no idea what they get themselves into until it is too late. #ParkChat

replying to @RoadTripsCoffee @RoadTripsCoffee @NatlParkService It should be. Front and center. Every major org in the non-profit and profit sector has a team #parkchat

replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2. I follow the twitter accounts of National Parks that we're visiting. That's how we found out which apple tree groves were open in @CapitolReefNPS this fall, and that roads in @BryceCanyonNPS were closed for snow. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Stars252525 That makes me wonder, what would be the #1 most inappropriate tourist destination for selfies? Auschwitz? #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A1: People getting themselves injured, killed, or in just plain dangerous situations all to get an Instagram shot. Things like common sense and the ability to appreciate moments seem to be increasingly rare. #ParkChat

replying to @RoadTripsCoffee @RoadTripsCoffee Thank you for this thoughtful answer. #ParkChat

replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2 hey Iām going to SD Natl parks w my 1 yr old son in May. Any road trip suggestions with a one year old? š #parkchat

A2. Short answer, no. But I might reach out to certain friends on social media for advice, like asking @RCGibby73, @Stars252525, and @kristarsha about visiting @BigBendNPS (hopefully this November!). #ParkChat

replying to @louisbink @louisbink @NatlParkService That would be an electrifying conclusion to the tale! #ParkChat

replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2. No, but I have been getting g ideas and tips here most Wednesday nights. #parkchat

A2 Okay ironically, compared to my previous answer, I use Instagram to discover amazing places to visit in the national parks. The difference with me, though, is I plan to enjoy my time at the scenic spot. #ParkChat

replying to @tabbsbetrippin @tabbsbetrippin @CapitolReefNPS @BryceCanyonNPS How cool and helpful and good to know! šš¼ #ParkChat

replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2. It helps put parks on my radar of places Iād like to see, but usually once I make a decision I mostly just rely on that parkās social media pages #ParkChat

RT @tabbsbetrippin: @TouringTastebud A2. I follow the twitter accounts of National Parks that we're visiting. That's how we found out whichā¦

replying to @RoadTripsCoffee @RoadTripsCoffee @ParksandPoints @NatlParkService No it isn't. We do have people who are in charge of digital media, though...that includes the apps, our website (CMS), social media, videos, and other things like that. #parkchat

A2 Not really, but maybe the Mrs does sometimes. She's liked probably every NP Facebook page #parkchat

replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer Nothing wrong with capturing your travels and sharing them on social media. My comment dives into the motivation, which @RoadTripsCoffee hit at, too. Are people traveling solely for the photos opps or for more reasons? #ParkChat

replying to @RCGibby73 @RCGibby73 I agree with you! You never really know what photo or video will spark your interest #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A1) just overall more 'popularity ' .. Now every one wants to go to the "secret" hot spring or spot, hanging lake in Colorado got hit hard, sensitive areas can't handle all the visitors #parkchat

replying to @Stars252525 @Stars252525 It sounds like you are slowly beginning to just not quite yet! #ParkChat
