Social Media and Parks

replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud I’d say social media influenced a 14 month National Park trip we once took. #ParkChat
RT @emdiercks: @59NationalParks #ParkChat people break @leavenotrace principals to get pictures "for the gram." 😑
RT @TouringTastebud: Q6. Did a social media outlet influence a National Park trip? Where to?

replying to @theRangerLife
@theRangerLife @RoadTripsCoffee @WildWithinHer @StevenOnTheMove I've been the first one in a visitor center more than once!
I can't get first chair when skiing, but I can with the NPS. Go figure. #parkchat
replying to @emdiercks @emdiercks @59NationalParks @leavenotrace All the time! Makes NO SENSE! #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud @RoadtripC @CraterLakeNPS Always love that blueblueblue at Crater Lake. Wheee. #ParkChat
RT @PetrifiedNPS: Today's peek at the park is a short hyperlapse video taken a short time ago from Lacey Point. As 3 1/2 minutes is compres…
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud #ParkChat A6 yes! In 2016 we went to the SW and thinking since it was early June would be nice weather. It was so. So. Hot. Luckily, we had gotten tips to go into parks as early as possible, followed the advice, and had a wonderful experience!
A6. So many connections through social media that have led to incredible insights...and secrets only told off social media #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A5. My dad took us to National parks when we were kids, and it shaped my love of nature. So that has a core influence on me way before social media even existed. Cuz I'm old 🤣 #ParkChat
replying to @rscottjones @rscottjones @TouringTastebud Yeah yeah yeah. I realized that the moment I tweeted it. I wondered which one of y'all would get to it first haha. #ParkChat
A6 I'm trying to remember how I found out that @PinnaclesNPS had become a National Park. Maybe just Google? #parkchat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud @WildWithinHer @RoadTripsCoffee @StevenOnTheMove I'm no expert on this topic, but I do know that there are many deaths in national parks that never make the news circuit...print or social. This is also true of SARs in NPs. #ParkChat
replying to @unconpeace @unconpeace @Adventuringgal @beckyjlomax @WildWithinHer @StevenOnTheMove @GrandCanyonNPS Stop being a hater Joshua - one of my favorite pictures...and I saved a family of four from being crushed below. #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A6 It's hard to say - very possibly, but I don't think I've ever gone on a trip specifically because of something I saw on social media. #parkchat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud Since I am a freelance travel writer, I use social media to document my travels and share pictures I took. However, I make sure that I always enjoy the moment, follow the rules, and stay off cliffs! #ParkChat
replying to @bewildandbefree @bewildandbefree For sure! The history definitely sparks our interest as well! #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud @publiclandlvr @WildWithinHer @RoadTripsCoffee It is also reflection of media cycles and how much attention is garnered because of events in national parks. Someone falling over a cliff and dying is going to dominate news cycle for a day or so, so we all know about it. That wouldn't have happened 50 years ago. #ParkChat

replying to @Adventuringgal @Adventuringgal @TouringTastebud I must ditto your thoughts here. My parents shaped my love for nature and NPs. Such a huge influence…and w/o social media. #ParkChat
replying to @hkergrrl @hkergrrl @TouringTastebud I want to got to @GarfieldNPS because of their FB page! I literally knew nothing about him but through that page I’ve learned some interesting stuff and just really want to get to Ohio sometime to see it in person...kind of weird? 🤷🏻♀️ #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A7 I'm sure there's one I only learned about because of social media, but I've forgotten which it was lol #ParkChat
replying to @Fiwaysandbyways @Fiwaysandbyways Love YouTube! If you have one we would love to connect! #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud Now this testimonial should be put on billboards all across the country #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A6) Not that I can think of, my traveling is based on various things like last year I wasn't planning on going to the Midwest until I was invited to my cousin's wedding so I made a road trip out of it & saw @59NationalParks in Kansas City along the way to Minnesota. #ParkChat
replying to @Stars252525 @Stars252525 We are the exact same way! We have a mental list of so many places we’ve seen on social media! #ParkChat
A7) We knew about the site, but James A. Garfield NHS and their Twitter presence has really changed our perception and knowledge of that park, along with the historical timeframe in which Garfield lived and was President. 100+ recommend a follow of @GarfieldNPS #ParkChat
replying to @hkergrrl @hkergrrl We need to go check out their Facebook page for sure! #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A7 - Dry Tortugas NP. Still haven’t been there, but didn’t know about it before I saw pics on FB. #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A7 None but I'm a travel/park book reader from a long way back. I've learned more about some of the parks tho. #ParkChat
replying to @ParksandPoints @ParksandPoints @ParasolViatress @Fiwaysandbyways There is so much content on YouTube! Just be warned you may get sucked into the black hole watching videos for hours! Haha #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud #ParkChat A7 well, probably quite a few as I hadn't kept track of them until we started sharing our own adventures to the parks! Esp the national monuments and such. Now I use soc med to keep up to date on the frequent new additions!
replying to @naturetechfam @naturetechfam @TouringTastebud @beckyjlomax That's wonderful! It must be fun to meet people you have met online in person. #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A2: America’s National Parks FB group is s great resource. @AbigailTrabue We got snowed out in Arizona and the group helpme figure out last minute backup plan. #parkchat
replying to @InnerCompass @InnerCompass @JoshuaTreeNPS That’s awesome they were so responsive and helpful! It’s a beautiful park! ☀️ #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud @59NationalParks @RoadTripsCoffee Madison Junction? National Park Peak? #ParkChat
A7 I think @GlacierNPS! We knew there were a ton in the area but had never heard of Glacier somehow. Now it is our favorite national park in the US! #ParkChat
A7: As a kid I was fascinated by the national parks, so I can't say I didn't know about them until social media. Certainly I have learned more about particular parks because of social media though. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks That’s just a tiny bit of influence 😉 #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud
@TouringTastebud None of them. I stare at them all day. 😁
Social media may have made me rethink which to visit, but it didn't make me aware of any. #parkchat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A6 Usually have the destination in mind first. Then pick up the tips and tricks to help plan and adjust as we go. #ParkChat
replying to @StevenOnTheMove @StevenOnTheMove Same here. Despite being a social media influencer myself, I'm not all that influenced by social media haha. #ParkChat
replying to @TouringTastebud @TouringTastebud A7: I had never heard of places such as @BighornCanyNPS before the age of Social Media. For all its ills or adverse effects it brings, social media also brings a wealth of information #ParkChat
replying to @ParksandPoints @ParksandPoints @GarfieldNPS How special and amazing is this! Consider this a must visit for us now! #ParkChat
replying to @ParasolViatress @ParasolViatress @naturetechfam @TouringTastebud It is delightful. Very fun…especially with fellow national park lovers. #ParkChat
RT @TouringTastebud: Q7. Which National Park did you not know about before social media?
#ParkChat https://t.co/n2Dq2dP29n
replying to @StevenOnTheMove @StevenOnTheMove @WildWithinHer @RoadTripsCoffee There's also more pressure for people to share more of their experiences—if only for a constant "content" stream for their social. So many seek validation or want to become an "influencer" these days & need more highlight reel material. Also—everyone has a camera(phone) #parkchat
replying to @louisbink @louisbink @unconpeace @Adventuringgal @beckyjlomax @WildWithinHer @GrandCanyonNPS And that poor Australian family is probably still thanking their lucky stars all these years later. #ParkChat
