replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10) If nothing else, for our own circadian rhythm. Light pollution can mess up your sleep cycles. Early studies are showing blue shifted light from streetlight or safety light LEDs may be more adversely affecting us than we currently know. https://t.co/c1baDGQkWA #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10) I think true, natural darkness helps create a sense of calm and closeness that is missing in our brightly lit, hectic daily lives. #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10) For one's health reasons in particular, its not natural to be staying up at night as long as we are now. Darkness signaled the body that it was time to rest and sleep. #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10. Natural darkness is essential for healthy development of animals & humans alike. Light pollution is growing at the rapid and causing detrimental problems for many species interfering with mating, eating habits & ability to navigate. This is a problem we can fix! #ParkChat

A10 Lots of reasons. Chiefly is it affects wildlife routines that can lead to popular decreases. But it also affects human sleeping patterns. And it's just annoying when I can't see any stars. #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10: it’s a reminder of how small we are. During the day we get so caught up in the self, so when we look up and see the infinity at night, it leaves us in awe #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10. One reason is wildlife. Species ranging from moths to birds to perhaps some mammals depend on darkness to lead normal lives. Foraging, navigation, and hiding from predators are affected. #parkchat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS #parkchat A10 Of course, to keep the natural rhythm of our systems. But besides that, it allows the brain to disconnect from light, screens, chargers, and all the ambient things inside our houses and cars. Good for the eyes, too!

A10 When we look out at the stars, we are seeing light that is millions of years old, we are witnessing cosmic history - past, present, and future all come together, like Arjuna seeing with the divine eye in chapter 11 of the #bhagavadgita #parkchat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10 If we didn’t have darkness, we would never have sunrises or sunsets. We need the opposition of light and dark to create the spectacular. #parkchat

A10: what I have found, through exp'ing at Night, is that, OMG...the sheer volume of Human-generated sound as well as Light pollution.
Animals really don't get any break from that Day or Night.
They need Quiet & Dark to be able to rely on their Senses properly.

A10 Defiantly good for the soul and for all the nocturnal animals! Some town in Idaho passed a law about the night sky and making sure lights are turned off! #parkChat
