replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10 for the health and conservation of the ecosystems #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10: it’s a reminder of how small we are. During the day we get so caught up in the self, so when we look up and see the infinity at night, it leaves us in awe #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS We need darkness to function well, to sleep and recover, and to be reminded of a sense of wonder. A dose of perspective that only the sky and places that preserve that can provide. #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10. One reason is wildlife. Species ranging from moths to birds to perhaps some mammals depend on darkness to lead normal lives. Foraging, navigation, and hiding from predators are affected. #parkchat

Q11 #ParkChat National Parks at night present their own unique challenges-even dangers. I mean, who wants to hit a bison in a tiny hybrid car? What additional preparations do you take while visiting and traveling in the Parks at night? @ArchesNPS https://t.co/h9002Qa2Ex

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS #parkchat A10 Of course, to keep the natural rhythm of our systems. But besides that, it allows the brain to disconnect from light, screens, chargers, and all the ambient things inside our houses and cars. Good for the eyes, too!

RT @ArchesNPS: Q10. Why is natural darkness important on public lands—or in your own backyard? #ParkChat https://t.co/Po2gvlke38

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10: I like those answers too. I really appreciated how small and insignificant we are at the Grand Canyon at night. Just a blink in time, a speck in the universe. That made an impression on us. #parkchat

RT @ParksandPoints: @ArchesNPS A10) If nothing else, for our own circadian rhythm. Light pollution can mess up your sleep cycles. Early st…

A10 When we look out at the stars, we are seeing light that is millions of years old, we are witnessing cosmic history - past, present, and future all come together, like Arjuna seeing with the divine eye in chapter 11 of the #bhagavadgita #parkchat

RT @59NationalParks: Q11 #ParkChat National Parks at night present their own unique challenges-even dangers. I mean, who wants to hit a bis…

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS I get a little sad when I think about kids that have never seen a truly dark sky. IMHO it’s one of the most wonderful things you can witness in nature. It’s important to have Parks to preserve them. Let’s work on bringing them back to the backyard. #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10. It gives us a chance to reconnect completely with the Universe. An alarming number of people haven't even seen the Milky Way. #ParkChat

RT @ArchesNPS: Q9. Modern camera technology allows us to “see” the night sky in new ways. How should parks use these spectacular photos? Co…

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS It’s essential to pure wilderness which is essential to humanity. #FindYourPark #ParkChat

replying to @WeekendWomanWar @WeekendWomanWar Well when it comes to starry skies at night there is only so much that can be done to a photo. This is one example I feel it's difficult to "over photoshop" a photo. But it's entirely possible the rest of the day. #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10 - @RCGibby73 can attest that we aren’t we aren’t seeing any Stars (outside the Dallas Stars) in the DFW metroplex - but take me to @BigBendNPS and the night sky is amazing! #parkchat

replying to @naturetechfam @naturetechfam @DonNadeau @beckyjlomax Food constellations are my favorite. #ParkChat

replying to @cairochris @ArchesNPS I also want to highlight how incredible it is not only that @GrandCanyonNPS is getting Dark Sky cert this year, but it’s closest large city (Flagstaff) is ALSO certified! Talk about foresight and planning to make that happen. Amazing. #ParkChat

replying to @RCGibby73 @RCGibby73 @ArchesNPS Dude, you are so on fire tonight! 👏 #parkchat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS @publiclandlvr I just heard a terrific interview with Dan Flores, the author of the wonderful "Coyote America." He talks a lot about cultural traditions related to the coyote: https://t.co/oNuNbjyLHB. #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10 If we didn’t have darkness, we would never have sunrises or sunsets. We need the opposition of light and dark to create the spectacular. #parkchat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash @MattsRoadTrip @ArchesNPS @GreatBasinNPS @WindCaveNPS I never actually had someone do that. The key is not to leave the lights off too long, though. And on historical programs...what is this “cell phone” you speak of? #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A10 So many of us are living our daily lives with light pollution and being able to have these location like a National Park is so important for us to be able to experience a night sky the way it was intended #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @ArchesNPS A11 We try not to be out at night, simply because of the possibility of hitting wildlife. Sometimes we have to be and then just try to drive slowly and watch for eyeballs. ;) #ParkChat

A11. If I have to drive, I do it reallllly slowly. It has the added benefit of resulting in some wildlife spotting. #ParkChat

replying to @naturetechfam @naturetechfam @ArchesNPS I’ve also been watching One Strange Rock on Netflix. Pretty amazing and inspiring stuff #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @ArchesNPS A11. I tend to avoid driving at night in parks and stick to hiking wider, easier trails or just staying at my campsite and enjoying the view! #ParkChat

A11) We try to not travel roads at night in the parks. One, you generally miss most of the scenery, Two, a lot of the roads can be tricky drives even in daylight (looking at you Trail Ridge Road @RockyNPS ) #Parkchat

replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer @publiclandlvr I think the coyote might be your spirit animal (and mine too). #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @ArchesNPS A11) I'd make sure that I get to the park with plenty of daylight remaining so I can properly set up camp, cook & clean up. If not I'll drive slow with the brights on at various times so I don't hit any type of wildlife including another park visitor. #ParkChat
