Parks at Dark
ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A2: The backcountry in RMNP last summer was pretty dark but the first time I saw the Milky Way was at Caprick Canyons State Park here in Texas #ParkChat

A2 Being an East Coaster means it's really difficult to find dark skies, even in the national parks. The darkest place I've ever been was the old Sheldon Church ruins in @Visit_Beaufort
Without my strobes it was pitch black. #ParkChat

replying to @RoadTripsCoffee @RoadTripsCoffee @Wild_Tribute Yes! Love frogs! I’ll have quite a chorus of spring peepers soon at my house! They are so noisy! #parkchat

replying to @GlennLRay @GlennLRay @Wild_Tribute The Windows section of the park and Balanced Rock are two great places for stargazing. #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A2) Within the National Park Service it would be in the low lands of Joshua Tree National Park. Outside of the NPS it was along the Pacific Coast Highway in Big Sur where there wasn't any light sources for miles. #ParkChat

replying to @RoadTripsCoffee @RoadTripsCoffee @Wild_Tribute All about what you’re used to. #ParkChat

RT @ArchesNPS: Q2. National parks are often located far from human-caused light sources. What’s the darkest place you’ve ever been? #ParkCh…

replying to @SouthernerSays @SouthernerSays @ArchesNPS That's a gorgeous shot! #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS #ParkChat A2 outside, Great Sand Dunes NPP during a thin crescent moon. Inside, @WindCaveNPS when they turn off the lights! 😁

A2a I was going to say the last time I died was the darkest, but then I remembered that we actually see a bright light when we die #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @RoadTripsCoffee Well, it is wednesday....it is his turn #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @ArchesNPS @Wild_Tribute #ParkChat Hi, I'm joining you from Puncak, which is a Hill Resort 90km south of Jakarta.

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip @GreatBasinNPS A great #DarkSky Park! #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks I call you a slacker every day. And? #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A2. The Adirondack Scout Reservation in New York's Adirondack State Park. Definitely the darkest skies I've ever experienced - and a great place to spend three summers teaching Astronomy Merit Badge! #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS A2. I'm from a mining community, and we clearly pride ourselves on this 😁 there is a place that gives access to the public to safely go down a mine shaft. That's a dark space! Otherwise, the are a few very dark parks nearby that offer greater stargazing.#ParkChat

Q3. Bats and snakes and cougars, oh my! What’s your favorite nocturnal animal? (📷: @CavernsNPS) #ParkChat

A1: We had a fun time hunting crawfish with a hot dog at Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. #parkchat

RT @59NationalParks: @Wild_Tribute A1 Nothing beats a clear view of the Milky Way. Growing up in the city I thought it was a myth. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute @59NationalParks @ArchesNPS It is but Lake Tahoe is now close to its capacity after years of drought. #ParkChat

replying to @RoadTripsCoffee @RoadTripsCoffee Good point. At least I have a job. #ParkChat

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip @ArchesNPS Thanks Matt! Moon came out in full force after a desert thunderstorm #ParkChat

replying to @StuartMHurlbut @StuartMHurlbut @59NationalParks @ArchesNPS @Wild_Tribute Beautiful! Glad you can join us! #ParkChat

A1. Also, interestingly, the very definite heightening of all the Senses.
Hearing every little sound. Night vision kicking in. And Smell, too, weird as that seems.
I can smell Deer, skunk, marshy areas, fresh water, and OMG the Flowers & Trees...amazing!
#ParkChat

replying to @t_jh2009 @t_jh2009 @Wild_Tribute Me too! We had a great night program at @ChacoCultureNHP. #ParkChat

RT @ArchesNPS: @GlennLRay @Wild_Tribute The Windows section of the park and Balanced Rock are two great places for stargazing. #ParkChat

replying to @RVTexasYall @RVTexasYall @Wild_Tribute I've never visited an official dark sky park. I think the only one on the East Coast is in Florida. #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS @CavernsNPS A3 #ParkChat Owls! I had a pleasantly sleepless night in @NCascadesNPS when I camped below a barred owl’s favourite tree

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS @CavernsNPS A3 Bats! I love bats. They fascinate me. #ParkChat

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS @Wild_Tribute A2) Isle Royale was a beautiful place for a moonlit hike #parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A1: I do like how quiet everything gets and how you can settle down with way less distractions (mostly speaking about camping or sitting around a campfire.) #ParkChat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash Yes, there are so many dark (and beautiful) places on the Colorado Plateau. #ParkChat

replying to @StuartMHurlbut @StuartMHurlbut @ArchesNPS @Wild_Tribute Welcome. You are the first #ParkChat guest from Jakarta in almost five years of chatting. @Wild_Tribute

replying to @MattsRoadTrip @MattsRoadTrip @ArchesNPS @GreatBasinNPS Oh dang! I hadn't thought about the caves haha! I've been in more than a few of those. #ParkChat

A3. I loved seeing desert kit foxes at @DeathValleyNPS. And I love seeing owls, although I'm not usually that lucky. #ParkChat

replying to @coasthikergirl @coasthikergirl It’s an experience! Talk about quiet...and cold...and wet! #ParkChat

RT @ParksandPoints: A1) We always enjoy the evening, especially when in camp and watching the moon begin to glow. #Parkchat https://t.co/YX…

replying to @ArchesNPS @ArchesNPS @CavernsNPS Bats are amazing. I have been in tiny crawlways and had them fly out without touching me...which was creepy as hell #ParkChat

replying to @Leximus28 @Leximus28 Awesome! Plenty of us educators on #parkchat! Glad you could join us! 😊
