Q9. Tell us (or show us in a pic) about the most strenuous hike you’ve done that you considered totally worth the struggle? #parkchat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A9. #Parkchat, cretainly my first backcountry experience, being only 6 years old, but it was possibly the very reason I initially fell in love with the National Parks in the First place.

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A9 #parkchat Hiking to Muir Camp at 10,000 feet on the shoulder of Mount Rainier in springtime. You start at Paradise and climb 5,000 feet over 5 miles. I’ve only done it on snow and have no idea what it looks like in the summer. @MountRainierNPS

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A9: The hike up to Mills lake for Solar Eclipse 2016 was worth it. 4 miles or so from Bear Lake past the thundering Alberta Falls, ending with this view #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A9) I would say that attempting to hike to the top of Half Dome with a fallen arch was my most strenuous, though I didn't make it to the top I saw some beautiful terrain that most didn't because I eventually to saunter like John Muir & look at my surroundings. #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax #parkchat A9 In my late 20s I took some HS kids backpacking along @PicturedRocksNL and as fabulous as it was, I was not prepared to be packing so much weight. It was HARD! I learned so much.

A9 The 1.4-mile roundtrip hike to Plunge Basin at Linville Falls on the @BlueRidgeNPS. The final half mile is a 600' descent to the basin at the base of the waterfall. The hike back was...painful. But I LOVED it! #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @Wild_Tribute A9: It wasn’t so much physically challenging but I’m terrified of heights so doing just about half of Angel’s Landing was a mental battle. Halfway counts, right? #parkchat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A9. McKenzie this past Winter. Deceptively mean for a 3850' peak. It broke almost all of my gear & left me bumped, bruised & aching for 5 days. I never ache that long after a single hike. #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A9. I’ll go with the trek up Mansfield I mentioned previously as one of them. It goes up through the woods, up some more, clearing on to trails I know I’ve skied, back into wooods, and then emerges from them...and you’re left staring up the rest of a black diamond 🙄 #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @Wild_Tribute A9. We lost our way briefly, and ended up making a forced march for the last two miles from Lake Chelan NRA into North Cascades National Park to catch the last ferry of the day out of Stehekin. Totally worth it for the memories. #ParkChat
