replying to @RockyTopSkiBum @RockyTopSkiBum @beckyjlomax The shared horse trail on the front end is a bit disappointing on a hot summer day when you have to dodge the smelly horse pies left and right. #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A7: Nature...she hates trails....keeps dropping large trees on them. #parkchat

A7 I think ironically the biggest challenge to maintaining trails is the human presence. I've hiked sections of the AT where the trail has sunken nearly a foot. Trails in other parks turned to slosh from trampled vegetation. #ParkChat

replying to @melissa_sue @melissa_sue @beckyjlomax @Wild_Tribute @HaleakalaNPS I visited @HaleakalaNPS a month ago! We didn’t make it up for sunset, but we were there just afterwards. We pretty well had the summit to ourselves, which was pretty awesome. #parkchat

replying to @TPRjerks @TPRjerks @beckyjlomax Have you taken her on the Devil's Path yet? #parkchat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A7: Budgeting, staffing, people leaving traces, and of course natural wear and tear. #ParkChat

RT @Wild_Tribute: A7. Great Q. Parking has to be one. Those who do not know how to follow LNT principles another, and finally, vandalism (t…

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax #parkchat A7 Those invasive species are a tough one. Along with annual maintenance, I suppose!

replying to @coasthikergirl @coasthikergirl @beckyjlomax @Wild_Tribute @HaleakalaNPS Wow! It gets pretty crowded so you likely missed the crowds. It’s unreal. Would love to go back at some point and witness it again. #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A7) People going off of them. A lovely little trail at a state park in my area is no longer as lovely because of posts that had to be put in (for an eventual fence) since, presumably, people kept leaving the cordwalk and harming the dunes. #ParkChat

replying to @Stars252525 @Stars252525 @beckyjlomax A7. Thinking the same. Obviously, overuse and crowding is an issue, but mother nature can be pretty nasty for trails too. #parkchat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A7 education and follow through. Everyone needs to pitch in and take care of the parks. Seems like so many know it, but don't follow the principles. #parkchat

RT @beckyjlomax: Q8. Share a tidbit about a trail that totally surprised you. #parkchat https://t.co/Exdgzi3rLs

replying to @JrRangerTigran @JrRangerTigran @beckyjlomax @CHISNPS Excellent pic Tigran. #ParkChat

replying to @melissa_sue @melissa_sue @beckyjlomax @Wild_Tribute @HaleakalaNPS All of the sunrise visitors were driving down the switchbacks as we were heading up, and we beat the folks who like to have breakfast and coffee in the morning. Our high for the day was an elevation high! #parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute
@Wild_Tribute @beckyjlomax I’m not even worrying bout horse poop...the only time I hiked cracker lake I saw a grizzly bear and a moose
#parkchat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax #ParkChat I would say man power and funding to repair trail and make them safe after severe storms

A8. Half Dome is NOT for the faint heart. Honestly have no idea how more people don’t get hurt, yet 400+ ascend each day. #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A4. There's magic in the Hoh rain forest. Vegetation draped on massive branches of old trees. Lichens of every shade of green, yellow, and orange. Songs of varied thrushes. Crossing a steam, seeing small salmon. Finding elk moving among the trees. So much magic. #parkchat

replying to @WeekendWomanWar @WeekendWomanWar @beckyjlomax The original trucker hats! Love it! #ParkChat

RT @beckyjlomax: Q8. Share a tidbit about a trail that totally surprised you. #parkchat https://t.co/Exdgzi3rLs

replying to @cleverwomanNY @cleverwomanNY @CongareeNPS Haha! Yeah the winter months are really the best months to visit Conagree. I'm going up there next week. Wish me luck! #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute Indeed. Weirdly hiking last weekend at Watchung Reservation in NJ (it's a county park, but huge!) the local tradition appears to be carving into trees. Saw three couples doing it. Carvings were prevalent, but oddly accepted by all who were hiking. Again, very weird. #NJ #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A8 How hard the summit to @MtStHelensNVM was for me (not so much teenagers) 12 hour round trip. #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A8 #Parkchat I learned recently that the designated campsites in @HaleakalaNPS crater have potable water! Now I really want to go back and hike the length of the crater (16 miles)

RT @hksbks: @beckyjlomax A7) People going off of them. A lovely little trail at a state park in my area is no longer as lovely because of p…

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A8 Any trail where I come across an unexpected small waterfall. #ParkChat

A8 There's a trail in @MammothCaveNP where you can see a river flow underground and come back out again - it was surprising 'cause, like, wow, Mammoth Cave has cool above-ground stuff too?! #parkchat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax #ParkChat I was surprised by the climb up @GuadalupeMtnsNP . Wind, cold, long, steep, amazing.

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @Wild_Tribute A8: The fact that the @MammothCaveNP “trail” once was used as a TB ward was intriguing to me. #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A8) I was told by the NPS intern at Isle Royale National Park that the Nature Trail was "easy" but I forgot to take in account the age & physical ability of the person telling me that. Hence for someone like me with mobility issues the trail wasn't that easy. 🙄 #ParkChat

replying to @e_terren @e_terren @beckyjlomax E J you’re on fire tonight. #ParkChat

A8: Be prepared when hiking at altitude. You get so tired quicker than you think. A 3 day trip at home might best be done in 4 at RMNP #ParkChat

replying to @hksbks @beckyjlomax @GlacierNPS A2, Pt. 2) Facebook is still preventing me from accessing my photos, but I did find a @RockyNPS lake photo from a hike on Cub Trail in my camera roll. #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A6: I did not grow up going to NPs, so my first visits were to @GrandCanyonNPS, @ZionNPS, @BryceCanyonNPS after the Peace Corps with my then boyfriend, now husband. That was the beginning of our national park family and our junior ranger girls-want to be rangers. ❤️ #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A8. Beehive in @AcadiaNPS isn't as drop off-y as it looks. One of us thinks it's still very scary! #parkchat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax A8) All the good ones surprise me but maybe for its sheer intriguing redrock canyon beauty would be Paria River, I was visually shocked around almost every corner. #ParkChat

Q9. Tell us (or show us in a pic) about the most strenuous hike you’ve done that you considered totally worth the struggle? #parkchat
