A3: Of course, our fav hiking partners are park rangers! While we cannot offer hikes thru this 4-million-acre wilderness, we suggest you chat a ranger up at our PTA visitor center or one of our bc ranger stns! They’ve got the intel on the local conditions. #HumbleBrag #ParkChat

A2 That is one of the biggest obstacles to visiting a lot of the parks in Alaska. Still, we are already planning an Alaska #roadtrip for retirement. and flights everywhere we can’t drive. #parkchat

replying to @LakeClarkNPS @LakeClarkNPS A2: I don’t think I’ve ever taken my own car into a park, but here’s a pic of a bunch of people wayyyyy to close to a bear in @GlacierNPS from inside of the rental car. 😂 #parkchat

A4: We suggest both! Have a map & compass with you and practice orienteering before you go. While electronics are convenient, do not rely on cell service or your GPS to know where you are. Most of AK does not have cell service & even GPS can fail in mountainous terrain. #ParkChat

replying to @LakeClarkNPS @LakeClarkNPS A4) We use both, but mostly #GPS for serious hikes. Occasionally, it's also "Take a pic at the trail head or Visitor Center".....#parkchat

replying to @LakeClarkNPS @LakeClarkNPS I’m pretty old school when it comes to navigating. Here’s the map we used when we went to #Alaska. #ParkChat

A5: The most essential thing to bring is self-reliance! You are dependent on your own resources here. Always pack plenty of food & fuel & carry extra rations. Come with proper gear, incl. outerwear, thermal layers & rain gear. Bear resistant containers are a must. #ParkChat
