Q1. What’s your general impression of the “Backcountry” in our National Parks?

Scary? Challenging? Bliss?

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A1) Honestly, in one word, "Western." We don't get a lot of back country out east. #Parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A1. More of the first two then the third. I'm perfectly content on well-marked trails. Kind of like how I prefer groomed trails to skiing in the trees--I know I'm missing something good, but what I'm doing works for me. #parkchat

Alone in your thoughts. Out of your element, Wild sounds, rugged terrain, exhausted, but away from others and the everyday life. #ParkChat

A1 I can answer this one - I don't backpack, but I can hike far enough in 1 day to get to the backcountry - I can't say I feel like the whole landscape is mine, b/c it's not about ownership, but I feel like the whole landscape is in me #parkchat

A1 A little bit of all of the above. We love to get out on the trail and drive the backcountry roads but there is always a little apprehension at heading off into the wild. A lot can go wrong. Still, I wouldn’t trade the solitude. #parkchat

A1: All of the above! There’s bliss in the challenge of climbing isolated peaks & beauty in kayaking around secluded lakeshores. The bc of AK has been trekked & traversed for thousands of yrs & continues to inspire generations of adventurous souls who brave the tundra #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A1) I find that the backcountry in the National Parks to be pleasant and quiet just as long as you avoid the more popular areas. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A1: It depends on the park. @SaguaroNPS most of it is backcountry for example so any hike more than a couple of miles is into the wilderness area. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A1. With kids ages 8, 6, & 3 the back country feels a bit daunting for anything more than short casual dips. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute @LakeClarkNPS A1 Inspiring and deeply soothing. I couldn't live without it. Even if (God forbid) I never saw the wilderness again, just knowing that wild and untrammeled places exist would bring me joy. #ParkChat
