Q10: What’s the worst weather you’ve ever been caught in while backpacking? In many areas throughout @AlaskaNPS, it can snow any day of the year. #ParkChat

A10: Visitors 2 @AlaskaNPS might bask in warm sun, be pummeled by raging storms, or get soaked by rain. Wx conditions can change rapidly & mtns channel fierce winds. Gusts 30-50 mph are not uncommon. Frost & snow can occur any time. Know before the forecast b4 you go! #ParkChat

replying to @LakeClarkNPS @LakeClarkNPS @AlaskaNPS A10) Pouring rain and high seas at @DryTortugasNPS , it got so bad one year that even the Ferry didn't come that day. I think it was in 2010 when an unusual cold front hit and it froze in Florida. #Parkchat

replying to @LakeClarkNPS @LakeClarkNPS @AlaskaNPS #parkchat A10 about 25 yrs ago I had some HS kids in N MI and we had just returned from canoe campong when softball size hail started falling! Our campers hid under the host's camper, we sat in the van and watched the windows crack! 5 mins sooner and we'd have had head injuries!
