Q8: Bears! Squirrels! Foxes! Have you ever had an animal get a hold of your lunch? Feeding wildlife, even unintentionally, is not allowed in National Parks. Share the best food storage tips for where you live. #ParkChat

A8 Not mine, but I saw a vervet monkey in Kruger NP get hold of someone's banana - they peel bananas just like we do! #parkchat

A8. The foxes on Channel Islands National Park were some of the most pesky food pests we’ve ever dealt with. Nothing is more pesky than mice though. #parkchat

A8: Our BC foodie tips: Bring enough bear resistant containers (BRC) for all of your food, trash, and toiletries. Avoid cooking and eating overly odorous food or fish in bear country. Sleep, eat, and store your BRC in different locations. #BearmudaTriangle #ParkChat

replying to @LakeClarkNPS @LakeClarkNPS #parkchat A8 Luckily in the #blackhills we don't have too many large critters bothering us, but always good to keep food packed in plastic or small bear canisters anyway!

replying to @LakeClarkNPS @LakeClarkNPS A8 #ParkChat We are very careful with food storage. The only episode I can recall is that a raccoon got our licorice at a @mostateparks A hard sided camper is an excellent food storage vehicle.

replying to @LakeClarkNPS @LakeClarkNPS A8: I use the BearVault 450 for my backcountry adventures and lockers for campgrounds. There was a nuisance bear reported at one of our sites we had to be wary of. #ParkChat

A8 When I was in the Army, I had a beast of a raccoon push over my 50# ruck to get the MRE I stashed under it. I shot it in the butt with a blank wad (the paper wadding in a blank) and it ran off dragging my breakfast with it. #parkchat

replying to @LakeClarkNPS @LakeClarkNPS A8) Hang the bear bag or bear canister. One tip I learned was to tie your shoes to your tent pole. Some critters like to take the salty shoes never to be seen again. #parkchat

A8) Hermit crabs and rats are an issue at the @DryTortugasNPS but they sometimes have extra coolers for campers to store things in. One time a hermit crab ate through the bag of charcoal, the moist air made it very difficuly to light the next day. #Parkchat

replying to @LakeClarkNPS @LakeClarkNPS A8 Only mice on a few occasions. In Washington there's not much need for any special precautions in most locations #parkchat

replying to @LakeClarkNPS @LakeClarkNPS A8) No wildlife has eaten my lunch though a Ground Squirrel snagged a jalapeno pepper that fell out of my sandwich once. I store food in sealed containers which are out of sight in my vehicle. While camping I either use the provided storage box or hang from a tree. #ParkChat

replying to @LakeClarkNPS @LakeClarkNPS A8. Seagull! I had one fly and hit my arm and others swoop in to grab my hot dog. Tip? I was advised not to have food in both hands, as the birds supposedly don't dive bomb those with a free hand to swat them away.
