A5. Depends on the park. Sometimes we can get an in-depth experience in a day. Other times it takes longer. We tend to do the highlights first trip, then go deep later. #ParkChat

replying to @Polymathically @Polymathically @tthrash Same thing for me! It wasn't until after I had been working a few years that I was able to have the vacation and income to explore more. #parkchat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash A4 Being a relatively new (2016 1st visit) NP enthusiast I’m still focused on visiting new parks, but my guess is @GrandCanyonNPS or @BigBendNPS will be my first revisit #ParkChat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash @ParksandPoints Funny how often that happens in America. British National Parks never cut the line #parkchat

#parkchat A5) I visited 20 different parks in 6 months last year, and so I didn't get to spend as much time as I wanted to in in *any* of them! It was kind of about greatest hits and hoping to get the essence of each park, drawing as much as I could

A5 Over the years I have learned to just slow down and fully appreciate one area of a #nationalpark. Yes, I might miss something amazing just around the corner. But I could also miss something right in front of my face. #ParkChat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash A6 #parkchat My first couple visits to Rainier were like that. I want to go back to Mt St Helens. It was mostly foggy all day until just before sunset. It was such a tease!

RT @tthrash: Q6. You make your own rules for what you consider a park visit, but is your conscience clear? Of the parks you’ve been to, how…

Big shout out to @LakeClarkNPS btw, last week’s host, who I serendipitously spoke to on the phone yesterday at length regarding Alaska’s backcountry rambles. The best! #ParkChat

A6. Three for me, with plenty of others I feel I barely scraped the surface despite hiking for miles or visiting for hours. Weather conditions (heat and storms) and a foot injury impacted my visits to some as well. #parkchat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash A6: the first time that I went to Death Valley NP, the (unofficial) thermometer outside the visitor center 'only' read 113F, so I had to go back to see it hit 120F #ParkChat

@tthrash @Wild_Tribute A3: ah, those awkward moments when roads close due to unexpected snow...been there, done that. but sometimes, those detours take you to unexpected surprises, so i try not to let it get to me when it happens.
#ParkChat

replying to @publiclandlvr @publiclandlvr @tthrash Yes, me too. Back hiking, so that’s good. Even did the scramble route up Old Rag @ShenandoahNPS last week. (Sore, though, afterwards.) #ParkChat

replying to @rscottjones @rscottjones @WildWithinHer @kristarsha @InnerCompass @tthrash @ParksCanada Right!? If only we knew someone. #ParkChat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash A5) I kinda of look at it from a photographer's perspective, I want to be able to see enough to the park on my initial visit by taking as many photos to convey what the park is about. If I get more than that then it's just gravy. 😁 #ParkChat

replying to @NightSkyPark @NightSkyPark @naturetechfam @DinosaurNPS Oh cool! I presume this must be some of your work as well? (It’s in our rec room) #ParkChat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash A5: I try to see as much as possible. I act on the assumption that I'll never get a chance to see it again. #ParkChat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash A6. We’ve been very fortunate, but we don’t let rain stop us. If we drive that far we’re still going to see it all including hikes #ParkChat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash A6 Our last trip to the Tetons was like that. Heavy snow. I've said it before. I pack like a Texan and don't have the right clothes. Hubs has given me the rule of "at least one warm outfit" for future trips. #ParkChat

A6. Definitely feel a bit guilty about Biscayne NP. Need to get in/on the water next time. #ParkChat

replying to @rscottjones @rscottjones @tthrash Agreed! We have found most NHSs rarely warrant more than half a day to see and do everything. #Parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @tthrash Right behind you, bud. #ParkChat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash A5. My goal has been to stay for as many days as I can--usually has been 4 to 5. I try to choose a good hike every day, a drive every day, and a good dinner every day. 😁 I also try to do or see the featured sites of the park,-caves, historic sites. #parkchat

A6. Rain and snow don't stop us. I might have whined a bit about climbing Great Sand Dunes in the snow, but I did it and enjoyed it. #ParkChat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash A6: I was eager to re visit Rocky Mountain NP because of Altitude sickness forcing me to slow down my first visit #ParkChat

replying to @coasthikergirl @coasthikergirl @kristarsha @InnerCompass @tthrash @ParksCanada @WildWithinHer Whew. I knew there were a lot, but did not expect that many. #parkchat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash A6: ugh. Glacier. We had a couple of good days, but the rain, thunder, snow, & mama grizzlies w/ cubs made it impossible for some of the things we wanted to do. I will be back! #parkchat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash A6 I visited @CVNPNPS too early in the spring a few years ago. Much too rainy and not a lot in bloom. Would like to see that park again in late spring/early summer or fall! #ParkChat

replying to @tthrash
@tthrash @Wild_Tribute A4: i had a gap year in 2016 (nps centennial year, i know 😭) between visits to yellowstone. aside from that, i've been every year since 2015.
#ParkChat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash Our biggest Next Time is @GlacierNPS We’ve only been once and Logan Pass was still closed. #UnfinishedBusiness #ParkChat

RT @tthrash: Q6. You make your own rules for what you consider a park visit, but is your conscience clear? Of the parks you’ve been to, how…

replying to @wxlada @wxlada @tthrash That gauge looks photoshopped haha. But isn't it always a dry heat that doesn't really feel THAT bad out there? #ParkChat

#parkchat A6) Bryce Canyon! I only got to spend a couple hours, and got driven out by snow. Next time!

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur @59NationalParks @ParksPassport @NatlParkService @Wild_Tribute I considered it, but after looking at the list—and in particular what was missing—and reading more about process, I don't find it nearly as compelling. Bummer, the general idea is great! That said, I'm def more likely than not to visit a place on the list if I'm nearby #parkchat

replying to @RoadTripsCoffee @RoadTripsCoffee I think piggybacking trips on to business travel helped me adapt to shorter visits. I mean, if I can only add a day or two to a trip, I'd rather see chunks of it than skip it for when I have more ample time #parkchat

A6 @AcadiaNPS b/c the crowds were insufferable last time - & I'm usually pretty chill about crowds in NPs #parkchat

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur @NightSkyPark @naturetechfam @DinosaurNPS Tyler, we have the Natural Bridges print. Bought it an @NPCA event a few years back in SLC. 👍👍👍 #ParkChat

Q7. Forgotten gear, bad pictures, car trouble, etc.: What is the most humorous or bizarre reason a park visit or hike was curtailed and has you eager for next time? #parkchat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash A6) #Parkchat There's never enough time! lol The seasons havn't ever truly effected me except maybe the heat when driving through @ArchesNPS and so I toured in the vehicle but we stayed in these canvas tents that were amazing !!!

A6 Only one site do I feel we didn’t give it out best. @CapeLookoutNPS. We have to go back. but that’s ok. we had just started and we some how missed Fort Raleigh, so have to go back. #parkchat

replying to @RoadTripsCoffee @RoadTripsCoffee @wxlada @tthrash My sunglasses were almost melting on my face. It's unreal. #ParkChat

replying to @tthrash
@tthrash A5: i try not to split up time between multiple places. i've learned from experience that devoting as much time as you can to one specific park can help you get the most out of your time there.
#ParkChat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash A6: We got caught in an unanticipated thunderstorm while backpacking in @SaguaroNPS last week, so that's high on my list for a return visit. #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @kristarsha @InnerCompass @tthrash @ParksCanada @WildWithinHer I know! I guess B.C. is over double the size of California after all. #parkchat

replying to @kokuaelli @kokuaelli What, a wittle gwizzly made it impossible to do what you wanted? :) Yep, feel I'm long overdue to get back. #parkchat

A4. I spent the summer of 1999 as an Interpretive Ranger Intern @FlorissantNPS - just booked the tickets to head back this summer for the 50th Anniversary festivities. It will be my first time back and I couldn’t be more excited! #ParkChat https://t.co/iChxgvCJVL
