Q10) Here’s a toughy. It’s something park rangers and land managers grapple with all the time. How do we inspire others to take care of wild places? #parkchat

A10 Beautiful photographs like that are a way to start. Believe in the power of art. It's no good trying to use economic arguments to convince people to save the planet; we've got to appeal to their souls. #parkchat

replying to @BeringLandNPS @BeringLandNPS A10: By taking others to these places and they can see that National Parks are much more than Half Dome or Old Faithful. They are not amusment parks. They are wild and need good stewards. #ParkChat

replying to @BeringLandNPS @BeringLandNPS A10) Perhaps by understanding how they personally would be affected if the wild places were gone, of what would be lost by not caring for them? #parkchat

replying to @BeringLandNPS @BeringLandNPS A10: Inspire by example. Take people to see first-hand how important it is to have wild places. A forest, an ocean, a mountain, etc all are different, but all have unique purposes. #parkchat

replying to @BeringLandNPS @BeringLandNPS A10) I've gotten some flack for saying this about the Wilderness Areas but I feel that as humans we need to keep these areas as wild as possible and restrict human activities so that the wildlife has a place to stay wild & not be exposed to humans. #ParkChat

A10(b): Here’s a thought, let’s encourage and showcase good behavior on Public Lands. Call out culture and shame culture does not have the effect you think and only causes arguing and strife. #PublicLandsLOVEyou #ParkChat

replying to @BeringLandNPS @BeringLandNPS A10 I feel like Disney or Pixar could help here. Make a movie celebrating the birth of our park system and highlighting how to care for it on story form. They are good at weaving in these themes, and plenty of young parents watch WITH their kids. #ParkChat

replying to @BeringLandNPS @BeringLandNPS A10. I've long said interpretation is everything. Take, show, explain, demonstrate, share enthusiasm. Inspire them to be interested in some aspect of nature, and the rest may fall into place. I've seen it work. #parkchat

replying to @BeringLandNPS @BeringLandNPS A10: @YosemiteNPS, part of the junior ranger program was to collect trash. The pink junior Rangers received biodegradable bags and gloves. Now if every visitor received that upon entry, maybe people would take more notice and be more conscientious about #leavenotrace. #ParkChat
