Q6 #ParkChat We all know the advice. Put your phones down and enjoy nature more. Seek the solitude, not the signal. How do you balance your desire to immerse yourself in the outdoors along with seeking the fun of sharing your experience with others in social media?

replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild A6--I'm not sure the places I revisit frequently need to be kept new for me. But there is something reassuring about the familiarity. #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Shawninthewild A6 #parkchat I rarely share the experience while I’m out in nature. I’ll take photos and notes, but I’ll wait until I’m back at home and in work mode before posting.

A6. I try to limit posts until I get home. And sometimes I don't even do it then. I try to be fully present for my experience--ultimately, I'm there for me. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A6: I try and stick to places where there is not signal, so I have no choice. Then again, I've only had a mobile phone since last June. #ParkChat

A6. I have done just that: cut back substantially, but I still make time to share photos, or quick stories.
Adventure Time went up.
Social Media Time went down.
Sharing Time went up.

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A6. Sometimes it's fun to post things in the moment (to be live with family/friends), but I am usually very content to post pics later. #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A6 My phone is my camera so I use it for that. I try to ignore any other nudges until I'm off trail. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks #parkchat A6 take pics on camera. Camera syncs via Bluetooth to phone. Later back at camp, share photos on phone online. No need to be live all the time! 😁 Live in the moment!

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A6: I can share it later when I’ve rejoined civilization. I used to do live broadcast or post right away but now I find I’m doing less and less insta-sharing as I go along. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Shawninthewild A6 #ParkChat I like to take pics but I hate pausing my hike for that, so I keep my phone in an easy-to-reach spot so I can whip it out and take a quick snap. I mean real quick, like I don’t spend much time anymore framing up my shot or anything, I just snap & go

A6 I usually only share 1-2 pictures of each place I visit - sum it up and move on #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Wild_Tribute A6. Go places where there's no cell service, take plenty of pictures, and share them when you get home! #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A6) Easy, I share when I get back home or hotel room but not in the park. The time in the park is my time to be disconnected and in touch with nature. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks a6 - always time back at the lodge over a beverage to tell everyone on social media how great your life is. PS - did I tell you guys I completed reaching all 4 continental US corners this week? 😂😂 #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A6) I used to share as I went, but over the past year I've stepped way back from social media and have just enjoyed the experience for the most part. It's been refreshing, but I've missed connecting with people. #parkchat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A6: It’s definitely a balancing act! We love disconnecting, but we work from the road so we can’t go too long without some type of signal. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Shawninthewild A6) For most of my major trips I unplug from social media and enjoy sharing the "Best Of" with people after the fact. It's like taking the trip again! I blog sometimes as a way to capture it as I unwind at the end of that day so it doesn't interfere with "the moment." #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Shawninthewild A6. Maybe it's my age, but I don't find this to be a problem. I do have a small set of friends I will text with pictures. Yes, I have occasionally done this from the trail. It does feel good to share a great scene in real time with someone hundreds of miles away. #parkchat

replying to @TheDetourEffect @59NationalParks @Shawninthewild A6 #ParkChat although on the flip side I do find that keeping a photographer’s eye out can help me observe more and notice things I otherwise wouldn’t; technology can help us appreciate nature slowly too. I guess my answers are more about camera use than socials/cell signal
