Balance in the Outdoors

RT @e_terren: @Wild_Tribute @Shawninthewild A1. I prioritize experiences over things. Usually. Books are a priority for me. But, getting ou…
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A1: Balance comes from outdoors: without outdoor activities there isn’t balance. #ParkChat
replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild A2 Yes. Romantic picnic trail lunches? With myself. #ParkChat
A2. Seek new adventures, new destinations, new adventure friends. If you do those things, how could exploring nature ever grow stale?

replying to @e_terren @e_terren @Wild_Tribute That's how you set priorities! I fully agree with that. What was one of your latest fav experiences #Parkchat
A2 #ParkChat Research and planning go a long way for enjoyment of a Park visit. Less planning unfortunately means less enjoyment when I have to replay due to weather. Like now in South Dakota.
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute Balance is critical to me - I’ve been on both sides of it (too much work, too little). Of course working for NPS & at GRCA the second half is a bit unique for me, obviously very high both in terms of work & personal. #ParkChat
replying to @tthrash @tthrash @Shawninthewild @RCGibby73 Seinfeld master right there. #ParkChat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A1: Found it! If I knew how to balance stuff, life would be oh-so much easier. #ParkChat
replying to @Bernardine @Bernardine Isn't it amazing what happens when one becomes comfortable with themselves like that? How many menu arguments happen though? #Parkchat
replying to @louisbink @louisbink @Shawninthewild @hksbks @59NationalParks @Wild_Tribute This makes me feel better about my book stacks around the house. #parkchat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute @Shawninthewild A1 #ParkChat nutrition, exercise,& relative freedom to make my own decisions. If I have those I can buckle down & do the stuff I *have* to do b/c I know I’m also doing plenty for myself, & they keep my physical/mental mood up. NPs fit into the last two, giving me movement & freedom
A2 I’m not sure I even find the parks and outdoors stale. Seasonal changes alone refresh the visit even to a place I’ve been tons. #ParkChat
replying to @hksbks @Wild_Tribute @Shawninthewild ... and apparently I need more down time right now since I answered question one by saying it was question two (Q1 👉 A2 🤪) #ParkChat
replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild A2: Find Joy in all places, National Parks are awesome but if you can’t get there, State Parks/Local Nature Preserves work just as well. It helps to have options #ParkChat
replying to @ThatOutdoorGuy @ThatOutdoorGuy Life progression summed up in a tweet. Like a moose in motion, it's coming or not, jump on and enjoy #Parkchat
replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild A2. Stay greedy. Look at pictures (mine, others), think of what I've seen where, and how much more there is to see, and imagine ways of getting to see it. #parkchat
replying to @Bernardine @Bernardine @tthrash @RCGibby73 Ahhhh it's so nice to be surrounded by people who just get it #Parkchat

@Shawninthewild A2 #parkchat
I just have to look out at the mountains on clear days to start thirsting/pining/whining for the outdoors
A2 Meditate with the windows open, using birdsongs (daytime) and cricket frogs (nighttime) as a mantra #ParkChat
replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild Literally none and I always compliment myself on the food. Like ... good job B ... thanks B, you're worth it. #ParkChat
replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild A2) Believe after the last few weeks where I've had an MRI, Ultrasound & CT Scan for a couple different health concerns, my thirst for the outdoors was at an all time high. #ParkChat
replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild #ParkChat A2 we try to explore new places every year to keep the adventure fresh. But we do leave time for our favorites too.
replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild A2: Since I spend most of my time inside, with outside being a treat, how could it possibly ever get stale? #ParkChat
replying to @cairochris @Wild_Tribute However, ironically for someone whose job requires socializing and frontline communication, that’s probably my weakest area when it comes to personal life. Tend to overanalyze and get a bit lost in head games. #ParkChat
replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild A2: Always looking for new and different adventures. Also I have acquired an outdoor family here in TN when I do not feel like going it alone #ParkChat
replying to @bushwhackingfoo @bushwhackingfoo Chips are a treat and they get stale. I might be over simplifying life or am really snacky. #Parkchat
Q3 #ParkChat You’ve planned a great trip to a National Park. While planning you notice several great places to stop and visit along the way. How do you balance your plan to see and do as much as possible at your destination along with your desire to broaden your trip horizons?
replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild A2) We keep nature exciting by visiting new outdoor destinations whenever possible. It's always fun to discover new places! #parkchat
replying to @hksbks @hksbks @Wild_Tribute @Shawninthewild I’m having a hard time focusing and keeping up! I also nearly forgot about my dinner in the microwave #ParkChat
replying to @billbrokob @billbrokob TN?! I forgot you were there too. My wife's brother just moved out there. Hmmmm #Parkchat

And your escape to @YosemiteNPS filled that bill, and made me VERY ENVIOUS, Tim!

replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild @Wild_Tribute A: Life is about variety. #ParkChat
replying to @bushwhackingfoo @bushwhackingfoo @Shawninthewild Yep, too much time inside will do that! ☺️#parkchat
replying to @InnerCompass @InnerCompass What's also amazing is how the sample place in a different season can dramatically change #Parkchat
replying to @cairochris @Wild_Tribute Something I feel I’m falling victim to again right now, unfortunately. Only having 6 months to get to know people poses it’s own challenges too. Especially when you only share one day off every other week. #ParkChat
A3. Our #1 road trip rule is: if anyone sees something and wants to stop, for any reason, we do it. It might mean a little less time in the NP, but probably more time in a less crowded place. Win! #ParkChat
replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Shawninthewild @Wild_Tribute Bursting in the door! I'm late! 😩 #ParkChat
replying to @akkingon @akkingon @Wild_Tribute That's how you do it! Keep people on their toes and the fun flowing #Parkchat
replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild A2. I'd guess we've hiked this particular stretch of trail at nearby #CaesarCreek @OhioStateParks 50+ times, in all seasons, and it never gets stale! Just getting out whenever possible is enough to keep that thirst alive! #ParkChat
replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild A very good point. But chips make you fat and the outdoors does the exact opposite. That is, if you aren't picnicking all the time and eating stale potato chips. #ParkChat
replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A3 Such a good question. Every time I get to a NP here I feel like I needed more time. But the journey is the adventure so don't pass up sidetracks. Most fun is often not planned. #ParkChat
replying to @Todd_the_Hiker @Todd_the_Hiker @Shawninthewild @OhioStateParks It's nice to see you here, Todd! Been a long time. #ParkChat
A2 This is a good question to ask as I'm thinking about house designs, it's possible to design our living spaces to create a connection w/ the outside & encourage us to get outside #ParkChat
