Balance in the Outdoors

replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild A2. Ever see “the Running Man”? #parkchat
replying to @cairochris @Shawninthewild For example, the individual I referenced in my Q1 answer is interested in history. So thinking of asking if they would be interested in a day trip to Wupatki, would be interested in experiencing that history through their eyes. #ParkChat
replying to @hksbks @hksbks @59NationalParks @Shawninthewild I totally agree! #ParkChat
replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A3 Sometimes we have to make an executive decision. Add this? Cut this. Or adding a day to our vacation plans in advance works too. #ParkChat
replying to @tthrash @tthrash @59NationalParks We want to interrupt this message a "special thanks" announcement to @tthrash .. Thank you for your support and help with our video shorts. Now back to regularly scheduled #parkchat programming.
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4 - I love to walk and take in the sights so a small section of the park could easily take 2-3 days. First visits are the tourist elements but I keep an eye out for the lesser known - if they look awesome then it's a return trip #Parkchat
replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer @Bernardine I’ve seen the largest baseball bat, Ukrainian sausage, goose, and nickel! #parkchat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute #parkchat A4 we have small kids so we learn a lot from trial and error. But for now we are happy with keeping it simple and fun. We know as they get bigger we can adventure further! 😍

A4. I tend to be more conservative--I know what I like and stick to it. Mr. Adventure encourages me to stretch a bit, and I usually enjoy it. No disasters so far, knock wood. #ParkChat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4: I just try and get out there and do it. #ParkChat
replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer See it, I'm doing that while I catch mac & Cheese from hitting the floor #Parkchat
replying to @bushwhackingfoo @bushwhackingfoo @Shawninthewild #TRUTH...I completely agree with that! #ParkChat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4 The trails in our parks are usually well rated for difficulty which doesn't mean I always grasp my current conditioning and haven't pushed it too far. #ParkChat
replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild @TheDetourEffect That's usually true though after my around the world journey last year I've had trouble figuring out where to go to next. #ParkChat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4: I spend most of my time in the lowlands of the #Adirondacks, so I pretty much know that almost everything is within my ability. That is, as long as I keep my old body in decent shape. #ParkChat
replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer @Shawninthewild @bushwhackingfoo @59NationalParks @Wild_Tribute @beckyjlomax @tthrash @RoadTripsCoffee @ParksandPoints @naturetechfam @WildWithinHer @theRangerLife @MissouriHowell @Cbink_11 @Bernardine And yet the Shock and Awe were real #ParkChat
replying to @t_jh2009 @t_jh2009 @Shawninthewild Those twists in life definitely make you appreciate time outdoors! #ParkChat
replying to @t_jh2009 @t_jh2009 @Shawninthewild Hell yeah! I hope you go full Nature. Eat leaves. Bathe in mud. Do a rain dance. #parkchat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute a4 - After returning from a summit hike @MtStHelensNVM - two days of "shake-leg" I had to recover from was learning the hard way. 😭😂 #ParkChat
replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer @billbrokob @Shawninthewild @bushwhackingfoo @59NationalParks @Wild_Tribute @beckyjlomax @tthrash @RoadTripsCoffee @ParksandPoints @naturetechfam @WildWithinHer @theRangerLife @MissouriHowell @Cbink_11 I did your promo. #parkchat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4) After my ankle injury I've had to slow way down and learn that experiencing a park doesn't mean that you have to be miles from a road. I've learned to enjoy more scenic drives and short, flat hikes. #parkchat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4: Know your surroundings and conditions along with your own health. The later bit me the hard way last summer when I had to bail on a hike after one night. But we still did 15 miles out and back! #ParkChat
replying to @OutdoorAdv360 @OutdoorAdv360 @cairochris Even on mild wanders she likes to take time and savor. I like to charge and move, her method is superior #Parkchat
A4 #ParkChat Solid research in advance does wonders. When I ended up with blisters that nixed hiking and backcountry camping plans for Glacier NP, I knew enough about the park to make the most of the trip. And I still get to go back.
replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks Ah, the planning fallacy. I’m not particularly good at avoiding this, but I’m trying to get better. #ParkChat
replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Shawninthewild A3. How, indeed. It takes willpower to manage these two things, and I admit to being poor at this. I try not to over-plan, and go with the flow. Still, I usually manage to arrive at the destination about on time. #parkchat
RT @monicagoesshow: What is your favorite national park?
#nps #nationalpark #travel #parkchat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4 #parkchat I guess I’ve been pretty lucky. I did get stuck unprepared in some late-season snow on a trail while visiting Banff NP. It was my first ever overnight hike in the Rockies
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4. Add it all up: T\the driving time, the time for the hike, bear in mind what you did the day before, what you want to do tomorrow, and be reasonable. Lots of park time coming on my July road trip. Won't go nuts hiking every day of it. #parkchat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A1 #parkchat I strongly prioritize travel and public lands in my life. That means keeping our everyday expenses low and ensuring that we make time for regular travel.
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4) That's where my mobility issues come in handy, the choices of things to do is a lot less than it is for most people. #ParkChat
replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer @Shawninthewild You hire a band of hardened criminals to chase you through the wilds! #ParkChat
Q5 – You’ve been to this spot a million times and you still return again and again, what keeps it new for you and is that why you keep returning? #Parkchat
replying to @Shawninthewild @Shawninthewild @Wild_Tribute We also tend to hit the tourist elements the first time around and then do something less visited later on that visit or on a future visit. #parkchat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4 I like to be sure to include some experience that pushes the envelope for me when visiting national parks. But then tack on some easier hikes, too. #ParkChat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4: Oh Pshaw! If you are not in over your head you are wading! #ParkChat Insert warning label and disclaimer here
A4 Apparently, taking on 4 Catskill peaks in one day was too much. Anything less than that I can do #ParkChat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute National Parks balance out the stress in my life. The intense joy I find in them balances out all the angst and annoyance I find when I’m not in a National Park. #FindYourPark #ParkChat
replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Shawninthewild A3 #ParkChat I try to organize pit stops to match with times I would have needed to pull over for a break anyway, like every few hours I know I’ll need to stretch my legs and get a snack or something so I time those with cool attraction spots so it’s 2 birds 1 stone
replying to @AlbaAdventureNY @AlbaAdventureNY @59NationalParks I tried watching earlier. Will catch it for sure this evening. #parkchat
RT @EPCOTExplorer: @Wild_Tribute National Parks balance out the stress in my life. The intense joy I find in them balances out all the angs…
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4 I always ask myself a ? or two. Am I close enough to electricity for my asthma nebulizer in case of emergency? Is this trail too hard? #ParkChat
replying to @InnerCompass @InnerCompass @Wild_Tribute It's a great way to get a lay of the land and then move on to the more extreme elements #Parkchat
A4: I try to review the trails online to see what elevetaion they begin at and gain/change of elevation, distance versus its trail difficulty. I am not afraid to go hard, high and long. My kids and wife have limits. #ParkChat
replying to @Bernardine @Bernardine @WildWithinHer There isn't a chance I would miss a giant ball of twine if I saw a sign on a road trip! #parkchat
replying to @last_adventurer @last_adventurer @Wild_Tribute 42 is always the answer #ParkChat
