Balance in the Outdoors

replying to @billbrokob @billbrokob @Wild_Tribute Yeah...hence the lack of sleep I referenced. (Though at 50° right now, not a major factor yet). But usually it’s a leave by 4:30 back at 8 kind of thing...doesn’t really appeal to me. #ParkChat
replying to @daavetv @daavetv @59NationalParks Your self discipline is paramount #Parkchat
replying to @EPCOTExplorer @EPCOTExplorer @Wild_Tribute I think of my experience a year earlier. Not quite as many park units, but just warn out at the end of the road trip. Going from Carlsbad to ABQ, White Sands would have been a no brainer if at the start of trip, but I was just "parked out" at the end. #parkchat
replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Shawninthewild A6) For most of my major trips I unplug from social media and enjoy sharing the "Best Of" with people after the fact. It's like taking the trip again! I blog sometimes as a way to capture it as I unwind at the end of that day so it doesn't interfere with "the moment." #ParkChat
replying to @WanderlustJ1 @WanderlustJ1 @Shawninthewild @Wild_Tribute Perhaps a life jacket #ParkChat If water is involved
replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer I feel so sorry for the people who travel in a constant frenzy on social media. They miss so much, including in my opinion the rejuvenating health benefits of being out of their usual routine. #ParkChat
replying to @RCGibby73 @RCGibby73 @59NationalParks Same, I like to take pics but I post them later on when I can really sit down and sort through and pick which moments were most important to me in retrospect #ParkChat
replying to @billbrokob @billbrokob @WanderlustJ1 @Wild_Tribute Now this is getting interesting #Parkchat
replying to @cairochris @cairochris @Wild_Tribute 17.5 hours was my best time #ParkChat It is a big ditch

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A7 #parkchat I was amazed when I learned about the effects that the wolves (or lack of) have to the entire Yellowstone ecosystem. Sadly we're learning more about how the loss of one species can change an entire ecosystem
replying to @RCGibby73 @RCGibby73 That's one of the great sitting spots, you nailed that #Parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A7 I'm always amazed by how when left undisturbed nature will find a way to work together. #ParkChat
replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @Wild_Tribute Yup. It was glorious and terrible all at once. We started in SF and worked our way up the coast. We loved every second of it. but we were so tired. By Olympic we were feigning disgust with the whole thing. “Enough of all this! It’s too pretty!!” 😂 #FindYourPark #ParkChat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A7 Interesting. I think in all parks perhaps space for humans vs wildlife. Leave open areas so wildlife can thrive. Don't overdevelop human areas. #ParkChat
replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Shawninthewild A6: There is no cell service where I go in the Arctic🤣. #ParkChat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A4: we pushed our kids @YosemiteNPS. They did their first strenuous long hike up Mist Trail to Nevada Falls and down John Muir Trail. So proud of them, but it was tough. And we got to see @beckyjlomax at the top! We skipped mountain climbing course though. Next time. #ParkChat

replying to @WanderlustJ1 @WanderlustJ1 @Shawninthewild @Wild_Tribute How do you feel about carrying a lot (most of the) stuff? #ParkChat
replying to @hksbks @hksbks @59NationalParks @Shawninthewild Fantastic approach #ParkChat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A7. The amazing ability of the flora and fauna to survive the harsh desert is always a striking balancing act! #ParkChat
replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks A6 I usually check-in on social media when I arrive and then put my phone away and post any pics I take later #ParkChat
replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @59NationalParks Yeah, I usually do the same. Sometimes I turn it off entirely and use my camera instead. #ParkChat
replying to @InnerCompass @InnerCompass @59NationalParks Also depends on if you’re traveling solo or not. I find myself sharing much more frequently when I’m traveling alone. #parkchat
replying to @billbrokob @billbrokob @WanderlustJ1 @Wild_Tribute hook a backpack to the straight jacket and your sidekick can't remove it #Parkchat
replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Shawninthewild A6. Maybe it's my age, but I don't find this to be a problem. I do have a small set of friends I will text with pictures. Yes, I have occasionally done this from the trail. It does feel good to share a great scene in real time with someone hundreds of miles away. #parkchat
replying to @EverybodysNPs @EverybodysNPs @Wild_Tribute @YosemiteNPS Haha. Yah, I settled for just touching the base of El Capitan rather than climbing that rock. Scary. #ParkChat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A7) Yes there is a balance and to help keep it its fundamental that we all follow the #LeaveNoTrace principles while we're outdoors since it's the wildlife's haditat and we need to respect that. #ParkChat
replying to @coasthikergirl @coasthikergirl Wonderful example. It’s truly mind blowing #ParkChat
Q8 – Share those pro tips, in an life where time is getting harder and harder to find, what are you doing to allocate more to the adventure clock? #ParkChat
replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A8: Its the mountains for me. Just the way that the Rockies front range vaults out of the ground to greet you and carry us up to this crazy mix of wildlife/ruggedness/civilization that just makes sense somehow. #ParkChat
replying to @louisbink @louisbink @59NationalParks Hold on, before a congrats - what drink do you have in your hand? #Parkchat
replying to @billbrokob @billbrokob @WanderlustJ1 @Wild_Tribute I've walked this road in both sets of shoes #Parkchat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash @EPCOTExplorer @Wild_Tribute I won’t mention my 100 Parks in a 100 Days for the 100th year of the parks trip in 2016. 😬🙈🥴😴 #parkchat
