Q4: Most people have a basic 4th grade knowledge of the #lewisandclark story. But how would our understanding of the expedition change if we looked at it as if we were standing on the shore watching the Corps of Discovery pass by on boats? #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A4 Perhaps we would look at the boats and think of the difficulty of what they will face. #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A4. It would help us understand how challenging the mission was. To cross unknown (to them at least) lands and crossing paths with unknown creatures #parkchat

A4 As a AmericanLit teacher, it’s hard to get my students (HS juniors) to understand the significance to the folks of the day. much less those who saw it happen! It would boggle my mind as a tribesman. #parkchat

A4. I think that was the success of the Bicentennial commemoration--that the tribes told their stories. The Corps of Discovery II traveling exhibition was one amazing venue for that. And of course there's James Ronda's excellent "Lewis & Clark Among the Indians." #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A4) Perhaps like the landing of the Mayflower, all of a sudden people from a different land are here. #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A4 Funny, when at the L&C NHP last year, I remember seeing the trail to the ocean (six miles round trip, if memory serves) and feeling almost obligated to do it. I mean, it was such a minuscule portion of their trip...but time was tight, so. #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A4. From the standpoint of Native Americans, I can only guess there was curiosity, and perhaps a little fear of something different coming their way. I wonder how Native Americans today think about the story. #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A4 I always like to imagine the incredible, pristine landscapes as they were - filled with wildlife and natural wonders that were rendered unrecognizable mere decades later. #ParkChat

A4. If we were watching them in present day we would likely be following them on social media and would know the reason for the expedition. If at the time of the expedition, we would have tried to get the latest gossip to figure out why this group was traveling through. #parkchat
