replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A5. Sadly I should know more! But I’ve only learned about them and Sacagawea #ParkChat

replying to @tthrash @tthrash Yes! York rarely gets mentioned. He was Clark's slave and a tremendous asset to the success of the expedition. #parkchat

RT @fullvanfun: @LewisClarkTrail A5) Sacagawea #ParkChat And here's an interesting @TEDTalks on her . . . https://t.co/IiJCRhSE9Q

A5. The story of York and Sacagawea are incredible. The aftermath moreso bittersweet. Glad Louisville, KY honors York with a statue on the city’s riverfront. Anyone seen it? #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail Sure. Great point. #ParkChat I was doing a time travel thing.

A5. They would have had a tough time making it without Sacagewea. She was an amazing woman from what I've read. #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A4. Among other things, we’d notice that they didn’t have bug spray, and wonder just how they did it. To say nothing of the disease, injury, and discomforts endured. #ParkChat

Q6: Lewis and Clark, and other members of the Corps, documented their journey by keeping detailed notes in journals. Today those journals give us a glimpse into that 28 month period and allow us to recreate those experiences today. How do YOU document your journey? #parkchat

Also, do you think there would have been more confrontation/violence with Native tribes if Sacagawea wasn’t pregnant nor had a child? #ParkChat

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur @LewisClarkTrail Oy, bug spray. Musketeers! #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A6 Photos. Postcards from sites as souvenirs. #ParkChat

A6. Pen and ink, although I have the luxury of ballpoint. And photos. I am my own expedition artist, I guess. #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail Let’s also not forget Sgt. Floyd - the only person to give his life on the expedition. His memorial in Iowa is one of many @ParksPassport cancellations on the trail. #ParkChat

replying to @theRangerLife @theRangerLife Excellent point! When the Corps first heard about Grizzly Bears (Ursus arctos horribilis) they thought that the natives were telling tall tales, little did they know that the 7 feet tall, 800 pound, 35 mph running bears were very real. #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail @59NationalParks A4: there are some great books on the 4th grade level! #ParkChat

replying to @theRangerLife @theRangerLife It was quite a diverse group of individuals - different backgrounds, education, languages, and experiences. #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail @t_jh2009 And many believe Lewis may have been gay, right? #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A6) Through stories like this blog we wrote on Craters of the Moon @visitidaho and lots, lots, lots of #JrRanger badges/patches #ParkChat https://t.co/FswxbJ9hjE

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A5) There's both John Colter and Sacagawea who played key roles in the expedition. #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail
@LewisClarkTrail A6: Lots of photographs and jotted notes in a little notebook
#parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A6. Sadly just through social media. It’ll be an interesting position at future historic sites for rangers to reconstruct a historic figures life through their social media posts #parkchat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute @LewisClarkTrail @t_jh2009 Oh boy, Gay, #canofworms. The journal of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation, "We Proceeded On," published a thoughtful two-part article about this a few years back. People went nuts. #ParkChat

A6 On some of NY's public lands, I bring my laptop and work on my book while I'm there #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A5. Whether it was luck or exceptional forethought, the members were well chosen. They should all get credit. So many other expeditions lost many members, or failed. #parkchat

replying to @WildWithinHer @Wild_Tribute @LewisClarkTrail @t_jh2009 Sorry, meant Ben there. #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A6. Social media posts, photographs...and I do keep my own travel notes fairly current. #parkchat

RT @fullvanfun: @LewisClarkTrail A5) Sacagawea #ParkChat And here's an interesting @TEDTalks on her . . . https://t.co/IiJCRhSE9Q

replying to @fullvanfun @fullvanfun Was it the Nez Pearce who also cared for their horses while they pursued the Pacific and gave them back upon their return? #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A6) I document my journeys via photos like this set from my trip around the World last year. #ParkChat

Q7: The impacts on tribes by the #lewisandclark expedition are undeniable. What is the best way to honor the tribes today? #parkchat

A6. First with scribbled notes and tickets etc in my travel journal plus hundreds of pictures. Then I put some together and post on my blog. Right now I'm doing weekly blogging through the alphabet posts of places we've visited. #parkchat

replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer @Wild_Tribute @LewisClarkTrail @t_jh2009 I think there was a SNL skit in the topic. #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail @tthrash Also, he did not receive payment, or so I was told. #parkchat

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur @LewisClarkTrail @ParksPassport That was going to be my mention as well! #parkchat A5 when I was about 9yo we were at the memorial in Sioux City and I swore I could hear Native American drumming and chanting. My family thought I was nuts. I can still clearly remember it all, over 30 yrs later.

replying to @fullvanfun @fullvanfun @visitidaho Haystack Rock! Keep on bloggin'! #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail
@theRangerLife And it's never too late to learn more about our history! If you want to know more about York in particular you can read about him here!

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A6) #Parkchat I've been making a Documentary film about the History of the Dry Tortuga's and now, also writing a book about how the @DryTortugasNPS changed my life and the importance of preservation of these places for future generations

replying to @tthrash @LewisClarkTrail And one by one, FB and IG etc have been killing off their handy travel maps, which I really found to be useful to track a lot of travel particulars. #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail @59NationalParks A6: pictures that we actually print, put in a book and write short blurb beside. Also, social media post. #parkchat
