Lewis & Clark Expedition

A9. We both struggle and thrive off the uncertainty of adventure. Trust and faith play a big part...in addition to patience and perspective to get through the inevitable lows of travel/adventure that balance the highs #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail Great question. I’d have to have some anxiety due to the unknown. So much potential for danger. I’d also be excited to see and experience so many new things. Mixed bag. #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A8. Standing on top of Spirit Mound in South Dakota in the same spot where Lewis & Clark stood, it’s possible to imagine them facing an endless prairie. #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A9) It would be probably a boat load of emotions from wonder to fear because most of it would be unknown so I'd be curious yet cautious at the same time. #ParkChat

RT @e_terren: @LewisClarkTrail A7. Respect them. Include them. Recognize their sacred lands. Help them find ways to get out poverty, where…

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A9 funness, excitement, scared, and more. #travel #Parkchat

A4. If we were watching them in present day we would likely be following them on social media and would know the reason for the expedition. If at the time of the expedition, we would have tried to get the latest gossip to figure out why this group was traveling through. #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A9) #ParkChat We have 7 kids aged 17 and under. Our journeys are typically long, long road trips (longest was 10000 miles over 6 weeks) all over North America. Our journeys involve @HomewoodSuites & cooking from scratch for 9 in a small hotel kitchen. Our emotion?

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur @LewisClarkTrail And in the #southdakota heat nonetheless! 😁 #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A8. On the other hand, large stretches of the Missouri River are now dammed, including the Great Falls in Montana. #ParkChat

Q10: The @lewisandclarknht is not a continuous surface trail, yet 1000s of visitors follow in the footsteps of #lewisandclark every year. What different or innovative ways of visiting and learning do you recommend for the next generation of Trail visitors ? #parkchat

replying to @NakMakFeegle @NakMakFeegle The Missouri National Recreational River has two sections of river that remain in a relatively natural state - one place to see the MO River as Lewis and Clark would have seen it. #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail I can't remember where I saw it but I saw a TV documentary that mentioned his life after the expedition. #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail @Wild_Tribute My feet hurt just thinking about it! 😂 #parkchat

replying to @WildWithinHer @WildWithinHer @Wild_Tribute @LewisClarkTrail So cool - we may have missed it! Spent most of our time at the fort. But definitely next time! #ParkChat https://t.co/K9LZOaOvBx

A3. I think diversity changes over time and we see more folks from different areas of the world these days. I think it reflected the people who were in America at the tie fairly well. #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail @NakMakFeegle Yes, come visit and see it! 😁 #parkchat

replying to @Parkasaur @Parkasaur And feel what they felt too. They were looking for the "little devils" or "spirits" they heard could kill a man by shooting a tiny arrow at them. #parkchat Lewis and Clark went out of their way to walk all the way there to see what it was all about.

A7. Education is one of the best ways to honor the tribes. We need to ensure our children understand how the expedition impacted them. #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A9. Caution - knowing how important it would be for our country to make it back alive with the knowledge we had gained. #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail #parkchat A10 the techie in me says make a drone movie of it, or better yet a VR version, or maybe an @IMAX of the trip?!

A10 While new and innovative is always good, there is something so much more real about actually walking the site and feeling the place for yourself. It just makes it more real. #parkchat

replying to @fullvanfun @fullvanfun @HomewoodSuites YES! I think you know what it's all about. #parkchat

Fun fact. Who else knew that the grandson of Clark is responsible for Churchill Downs and ultimately The Kentucky Derby? #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A10) I know with other trail systems there's an auto tour that one can take where there's markers with a description of the events that occurred at that particular location. #ParkChat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail
@LewisClarkTrail A8. Dams. Can't stand 'em. River killers.
I know I won't be able to see the falls in Montana, but there will still be some open landscapes to see. Thank goodness our country had the foresight to save some places. #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail I'd love to visit some day! Also, where the Columbia River flows through Julia Butler Hansen National Wildlife Refuge is still pretty wild. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute One #ParkChat HOFer was born on the same day as Captain Clark, too! (Not the same year, though.)

replying to @naturetechfam
@naturetechfam @IMAX Excellent ideas! Actually @LewisClarkTrail is partnering with @NASAGO to take photos of land cover along the trail, expanding our knowledge of what the Lewis and Clark Trail looks like today! If you want to learn more visit here!

Q11 #ParkChat Just six explorers have their names attached to a @NatlParkService site: @LewisClarkTrail @FtVancouverNPS @DesoNM1539 @CABRILLONPS and #CoronadoNM Of these, which do you think were the most accomplished explorers? Been to any of them?

replying to @fullvanfun @fullvanfun @LewisClarkTrail @SantaFeTrail1 A beautiful part of that journey is that 90% of travelers visit the Dakotas by traveling east-west across them. The @LewisClarkTrail takes you south-north across much of the Dakotas, taking us to many places off the beaten tourist path. #ParkChat

replying to @fullvanfun @fullvanfun @LewisClarkTrail @HomewoodSuites Sounds like our road trips, only with less kids :) #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail @IMAX @NASAGO I saw that! and we are looking forward to joining in and seeing this develop! 😁 #parkchat

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail @Parkasaur Sadly they didn't get to catch a glimpse of those elusive devils! 🤔#parkchat But I bet they got sunburned!

replying to @LewisClarkTrail
@LewisClarkTrail A9. Anxiety...but also anticipation of what I would learn about new plants, animals, and geology.

I had a phone conversation with the woman behind @LewisClarkTrail prior to #parkchat and was pleased to learn that we had lots of connections. She is an accomplished interpretive Ranger. Let’s all that her for her time and excellent guest hosting tonight. @Wild_Tribute

replying to @LewisClarkTrail @LewisClarkTrail A10) Augmented reality would be a neat way to overlay information in the context of a park without taking away from the natural surroundings - what do you think @ocupath or @clevyr? #ParkChat
