Bison and Texas State Parks
ParkChat

A7 The bison were food, clothing, dwellings, fuel, everything to the Native Americans. Every piece was used. When the hunters shot hundreds a day, just for hides, and left carcasses rotting and huge piles of bones, it was infuriating. Of course it led to conflict! #ParkChat

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @DonNadeau Yes. And elk. So frustrating to see their confusion! #parkchat

A8 Watch the bison from the safety of your vehicle. If you hike and come across some, give the bison the right of way and put distance between you and them. #ParkChat

replying to @Donald_Beard @Donald_Beard Stay in the car. Walk your dog on the lease. Walk your young kids to the restroom from the campground. #ParkChat

replying to @59NationalParks @59NationalParks @Donald_Beard @Wild_Tribute We have 215 acre Tatanka Bison Ranch in York. While they are a private farm, they’re open this weekend for @AgArtYorkCounty! If you’re interested we can connect you with the farm for a possible private tour. #ParkChat

replying to @Donald_Beard @Donald_Beard We’ve been close before of course but only in a car. #ParkChat

A9 I hope the state of Texas will continue to support the parks with good budgets, game wardens, and state park rangers and employees. #ParkChat

replying to @Donald_Beard @Donald_Beard #parkchat A9 encourage hikers to stay on designated trails, limit car travel if possible or replace with public transportation, expand the protected lands as much as possible to allow a more authentic lifestyle for the #bison.

replying to @Donald_Beard @Donald_Beard Except for this completely accidental time of course at @BadlandsNPS #bisonstampede #ParkChat

replying to @Donald_Beard @Donald_Beard A8: Give then room. If they come into camp, don’t freak out just step back a bit and let em roam. Photo taken at entrance to Little Red Primitive area #ParkChat

A10 I always say, start it young. Educate the children. Instill excitement about wildlife and nature and parks. We all need to advocate for wildlife and parks every chance we get! #ParkChat

A11 Always hope for the future with places like Caprock Canyons and with our national parks. #ParkChat

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute #parkchat A11 as our national mammal, I think a greater awareness has been placed on its preservation. Therfore, I see an amazing future for the #bison in America. But I'm an optimist. 😊

replying to @Wild_Tribute @Wild_Tribute A11) I believe through awareness that the fate of the Bison is much better than many other species around the World, the stories I heard from my guide at Pilanesberg National Park in South Africa were horrific especially with the White Rhinos. #ParkChat
