Bison and Texas State Parks
ParkChat

Q2: #ParkChat There are many connections that people have had with bison in the past. How would you describe the connections you’ve observed and what universal connections do you think visitors still experience?

A2 I believe most people are in awe of bison and their wildness. They are so big and powerful and untamed, and I think the majority of people connect with that. I know I do. #ParkChat

replying to @Donald_Beard @Donald_Beard A2 I love driving the Blackfeet Res in Montana and seeing their herd of bison. It just seems fitting for Blackfeet…and such a huge part of their cultural past. #parkchat

A2. Today, bison are revered as symbols of America's expansiveness and tremendous resources. But we came awfully close to extirpating them from the landscape. We learned, but at high cost to ourselves and to the bison. #ParkChat

replying to @Donald_Beard @Donald_Beard A2) A universal connection we found is the bison mix between being in a herd and having time to exist on their own, though eventually coming back to the herd. #ParkChat

replying to @Donald_Beard @Donald_Beard #parkchat A2 98% of visitors seem to be in awe of their size and stature, and respect them accordingly. Lots of people ask for more info and seek them out. We've been in looottttts of bison jams (esp @YellowstoneNPS), and we just smile and wait them out. 😉
replying to @Donald_Beard @Donald_Beard a2 - Symbolic still as a cultural icon from the American west from native Americans, to over-hunting, to rebound and conservation - all while still being controversial both inside and outside of the parks. #parkchat

replying to @Donald_Beard @Donald_Beard @59NationalParks A2) My connection with Bison is one of fear while a herd walked beside me in both Theodore Roosevelt & Yellowstone National Parks as I was saying to myself "Don't hit the car, its a rental". #ParkChat

replying to @Donald_Beard @Donald_Beard a2: to me, they symbolize originality - original animals on the land. #ParkChat
