History Myths Legends
ScotlandHour

Q4. If you were given some artistic licence to create a myth or legend of your own, or adapt a bit of history, what would you create? #ScotlandHour

A4: We’re big on unicorns (especially @stirlingcastle) – which made us think of its water twin, the narwhal (which does exist!). Imagine this unicorn of the sea making its way from Tantallon past Inchcolm & Blackness, all the way up to Stirling Castle! #ScotlandHour #YCW2020

A4. If we could adapt any history we would speed up the development of indoor plumbing! For centuries, the families waste bucket would be dragged across the house, thrown onto the street, with a cry of "𝙂𝘼𝙍𝘿𝙔 𝙇𝙊𝙊"... No luck for anyone out on a stroll. #ScotlandHour

A4: Well, for the sequel to Taking Wing, I've taken an African #myth and made it worldwide:
The Ennedi, or Ennedi Tiger - a sabre toothed beastie who, in my version, can steal someone's soul.
No book is complete without a good dose of soul stealing!

replying to @ScotlandHour @ScotlandHour A4. Oh well, right now I'm writing a story called "The Magic Glasses" for my grandchildren. They have just gone from the Water of Leith to the Pentlands to rescue a girl trapped by the scheming Intergalactic Blob Fungi #ScotlandHour

A4 I would invent whatever gruesome and realistic ghost story that let me keep Windy Gap on the Isle of Coll to myself forever #scotlandhour

A4 creating legend/adpating #history? #Scotlandhour I'd have things turn out differently for Mary Queen of Scots, both her own decisions & those of others. That could go in several directions.

A4: We wouldn't change a thing!
Storytelling is a crucial part of Scottish culture, we just want to spread our stories further and share them with the world.
You can listen to lots of stories from the Borders and Midlothian on our app: https://t.co/IzaHvFJ2oy

A4 really tricky, not very creative when it comes to writing etc but something linked to the Hills & Mountains would be a subject that would appeal to me! #ScotlandHour

@ScotlandHour A4 Be careful where you go with this, least it grows arms and legs at the hands of a tour guide
Consider my 90 year old Granny - She grew up less than 7 miles from where the Fairy Pools in Skye are and she'll tell you that nobody ever, ever called them that.
