Endangered Destinations
TRLT
Q5: How do you avoid endangering a destination when you travel yourself? Share your tips! via @ramblrramblr #TRLT
Hi all: Dropping in for a minute: A lot of indigenous Amazonian cultures are threatened due to more and more encroachment onto the forests they live in -- it damages both them and the whole planet #TRLT
A5 Use skyscanner and search for flights to anywhere. We do this a lot when we travel and it means we’ve been to less obvious destinations that don’t necessarily suffer from overtourism, like Gdańsk, Krk Island and Taipei #trlt
A5. Follow @leavenotrace principles & try to put at least part of your money spent towards the locals or organizations/businesses which respect the environment. #TRLT
A5: I try to find alternatives to overcrowded destinations, and to promote them on my blog. Like Leiden, a sort of mini-Amsterdam @ramblrramblr #TRLT #travel #TravelTuesday
A5: To help preserve a destination (from a cultural perspective) avoid seeking things such as food and music that you are used to having at home. Shun the similarities and embrace the differences and enjoy the diversity this planet has to offer. #TRLT

A5 #trlt It starts at home. I've given up driving my car for 4yrs and use public transport or walk instead.
replying to @JLipowski @JLipowski @ramblRramblR A5: It all comes down to respect: Respect the local people, traditions, environment, and businesses and remember that you are a guest wherever you go. Read as much as you can and learn how to make your trip an enriching experience for all. #TRLT

What do y’all do? #travel #trlt
A5 Be respectful of the culture, even if you don't understand it. Don't take photos if you're told not to. Don't litter.
If a local person tells you not to do something, don't do it. The local people understand everything and know what they're doing, so don't interfere. #TRLT
replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel @ramblRramblR A5 Such an important question! I think it's about respecting the place, leaving it better than you found it, and remembering that people and/or animals need to live there full-time. It's not just for tourists. #TRLT
A5 I think it’s probably impossible to avoid completely but I always try to go off the tourist path, support local businesses and restaurants, and do as many staycations as possible. We have such beauty and cool experiences on our doorstep in Britain #TRLT

A5: We ALWAYS hire local, native guides that know their country best and have a passion for protecting its treasures. #TRLT
replying to @JLipowski @JLipowski @ramblRramblR A5 Don't be a jerk. Stay out of off-limits areas. Clean up after yourself. Spend a little money at local stores. Avoid super-popular destinations during the busy season. #travel #TRLT
A5: To avoid endangering a destination, I learn about a culture and tread lightly, stay and shop local, bring a reusable water bottle, coffee mug and visit farmer's markets. Volunteering is also a wonderful way to connect with a community.

A5: It’s about respect and knowledge. We would suggest hiring a local guide who is familiar with the site and it’s issues and will ensure that they are respected and adhered to. #TRLT
