replying to @HeidiSiefkas @HeidiSiefkas A5) As a former Boy Scout I always try to follow the motto "Be Prepared" in my everyday life which means that I try to enough knowledge to get myself out of most situations while remaining calm about it. Thus people usually don't think straight when they're upset. #TRLT
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @LindaPeters64 Being hangry and dehydrated is a lousy way to deal with an emergency or snafu! #trlt
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot A5. I don’t think you can prepare. I just make sure I have a few days’ extra contact lenses and underwear just in case. Besides, the whole point of travel is to open yourself up to the unknown and unexpected. #TRLT
#trlt A5: time. Don't react instantly. Let yourself think, have time to let things settle, sink in.
And remember, in most cases, someone will always be there to help. Especially true in Africa, I've found: there's always a way, always a solution. You *will* get there in the end.

replying to @HeidiSiefkas @HeidiSiefkas @afewmilesmore A4 I remember being in Himachal Pradesh up in the Himalayas during the monsoon. After a few days of very heavy rain I found the road was washed away...I had only a few days to get back to Delhi to catch a flight. I walked around the broken road for hours, losing half a day.#TRLT

replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot @postcardsplaces #TRLT A3 - a long and complicated story about being VERY hungover and lost in Lyon and crashing a rental car on the highway in the middle of the city...and somehow being given another rental and rolling down the road in less than 45 minutes.
