A4: Windsor Castle! Round the corner from our office in the Chilterns, it is the oldest occupied castle in the world. This is a must-see for visitors interested in royal history, you never know – you might even catch sight of the Queen! #TRLT

A4: West Wycombe in the #Chilterns. Partly for West Wycombe Park, historic home of the Dashwoods. Also for the spooky HellFire Caves in which (legend says) a baboon leapt on to the shoulders of a terrified Lord Sandwich, who thought it was the Devil! @LindaPeters64 #TRLT

#trlt A4: I used to live in England, which is full of castles. Near where I lived lie Conisbrough, Sandal, & Newark; all were active in the 1400s, & Newark was even important in the 1200s.

Not necessarily much left of some of them, but you just know you're walking in history.

A4: Orkney's Skara Brae is Britain’s earliest-known Neolithic village, and dates back about 5,000 years. This is a fantastic spot for visitors looking to immerse themselves in the Bay of Skaill’s unique archaeological history! #TRLT

A4:This is Iao Valley, a state historical site. It was a place of Hawaiian royalty as well as a bloody battle. It is a beautiful valley with a fresh water river perfect for a sustainable settlement. via @LindaPeters64 #TRLT #traveltuesday

A4: If you're in Michigan, I suggest visiting Motown to learn about rock-n-roll & more and then, for contrast, Edsel and Eleanor Ford House to see how the wealthy Ford family lived. #TRLT https://t.co/BDYDo73lwl

A4: According to Anna, our Head of Editorial, the best way to absorb the colourful history of North Yorkshire is with a visit to Whitby Abbey. At nearly 1,500 years old, its stunning gothic ruins are still a sight to behold. #TRLT

A4. Around the Highlands, islands and Argyll, there are countless ruins of houses and villages which were abandoned during the Clearances (either by force from landowners or economic necessity). This is what remains of the township Upper Gruilin on Eigg, cleared in 1853. #trlt

#trlt A4: In Yorkshire is the town of Haworth. More famous for its "Wuthering Heights", it hosts a series of 'historical weekends'. / re-enactments. A couple of years ago I went to the WW2 weekend they had on.

[They also have a hippie/60s weekend theme but I never went to that!]

replying to @HeidiSiefkas @HeidiSiefkas @LindaPeters64 A4) I'd recommend seeing the Panama Canal, its an engineering marvel that should be seen in person. But for me it was putting the stories my Dad told me about going through it while he was in the Navy into perspective for me. #TRLT

replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel @LindaPeters64 A4: I guess because I’ve been traveling in my region too much during this pandemic, I’m kinda over it, for now. So, instead I’m thinking back to my month in Southeast Asia. This is a 19th century citadel in Vinh, Vietnam. #TRLT

replying to @MoragForbes @MoragForbes A4: Most people will never come to NYC and head out of it for a few days; a 10 minute drive north of us (and we are a 38 min train ride from midtown) is NY state's oldest operating church (1685) and, near it, an estate from the same period. Old...for the U.S.! #trlt

A4: Historical places give people a sense of place and connection to the past. A historical place that I would recommend for visitors to our region is Vancouver's Stanley Park.

replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel @LindaPeters64 A4: I would suggest a train trip up from NYC to Cold Spring, NY where the Hudson narrows and it looks as if you're back in the 1700s. Really special. I married in an 1840 church there at river's edge (no electricity, only candles) that appears in period etchings. #trlt
