A5: Check with locals to see where they spend their free time, enjoy a meal out and take visitors to explore in their area.

Utilize public transportation, a day pass can open windows to hidden Travel Gems. Walking & paddling provides a beautiful perspective.

replying to @HeidiSiefkas @HeidiSiefkas A5: avoid other tourists! Try some new experiences, below or above your typical budget (like a drink at one of Manhattan’s elegant and classic hotel bars.) Walk slowly and pay attention. Make notes and return. Follow city/travel Twitter accounts. #TRLT

replying to @JLipowski @JLipowski A5: before you go somewhere ask people who know the place well, some of whom have left and are expats or immigrants but know their home well. Also nomadic workers. #TRLT

replying to @JLipowski @JLipowski A5) Without being too risky take a look down that side street and go for a walk to see what you can find like I did while I was in Paris and found this little park surrounded by office buildings. It gave me another view in how people live there. #TRLT

replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel A5: Take your time to explore and follow your instincts. #TRLT Bath is a tourist magnet, but the Museum of Bath at Work (in a former real tennis court) is worth seeking out for another side of the city.

A5 Ask a local! They always know the best places to go in their town or region, including the special, secret places which often aren’t in guidebooks. 1. Albania 2. North Macedonia 3. Uzbekistan 4. Georgia #trlt

replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel A5: Talk to the Tourist Board. Usually there are places they want people to see, but everyone goes to the main things. Wander off the path around the major sites. Often the next street/town over are amazing. Airport towns are great too #TRLT Roissy-en-France here near CDG.

replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel A5: I often travelusing human-powered locomotion, whether walking, biking or Nordic skiing. That’s how I connect with the land and its people. And I also ask locals how I can get beyond the signature sights. #TRLT
