Castles, Palaces & Forts

A2: The impressive Peles Castle was the first in Europe to have electricity. It even has an elevator and a central vacuum system - impressive for a place built in the late 1800s. #TRLT
replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel @LindaPeters64 A2 : The castle of the Dukes of Brittany in Nantes because of its historical importance. (picture : Wikipedia) #TRLT
replying to @HeidiSiefkas @HeidiSiefkas @ramblRramblR A1: Does mausoleum count? I know it's a tourist cliche but I had a love affair with all things India for such a long time before I actually went that seeing the Taj Mahal was such moving moment #TRLT
#Spain has so many incredible #castles to explore. You can even stay in them @ government-run @paradores #hotels- remarkably preserved landmarks like this one in Cardona. @LaPatrii @Spain @SpainInUSA #TRLT

A2: My favorite forts are in the Caribbean - Cuba has many but also Puerto Rico via @LindaPeters64 #TRLT #TravelTuesday
A2 The best castles, palaces and forts close to home is Casa Loma. A great spot for a tour and even better for Afternoon Tea! https://t.co/1AYyp6h7eM @SeeTorontoNow @CasaLomaToronto #TRLT @LindaPeters64 @heidiSiefkas
replying to @JLipowski @JLipowski @LindaPeters64 A2 a couple from Boston (actress and real estate developer husband) bought @kilkeacastle in Ireland and have done masterful work making it a #luxury #travel destination. Yep, it is haunted! #TRLT
replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel @JLipowski @RTWBarefoot @LindaPeters64 @Touchse @HeidiSiefkas I'll reveal later tonight ;). But it's aviation-related #TRLT #avgeek
A2 I'm fascinated by the Palace of Khudayar Khan in Kokand. It's a fraction of its original size - most of it was destroyed by the Soviets - but what's left is dazzling. #TRLT
A2 #TRLT Fort Clatsop is part of @LewisClarkNPS. A reproduction of the original fort is behind this welcome center. When Lewis & Clark were exploring the Pacific NW, they stayed at the original fort in the winter of 1804-05. Interesting place to see if you get this way.
replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel @ramblRramblR A1. I was really mesmerized by the Agra fort. It's so beautiful and it also gives an amazing view of Taj Mahal. Visited in 2006. (Don't have pic at the moment, so taken from net. Courtesy: tajmahalinagradotcom) #trlt.
replying to @LindaPeters64 @LindaPeters64 @ramblRramblR A1: The incredible Almodóvar castle in the Córdoba region #Spain looks and feels like a place built for giants. full of history watches over the entire town of Almodóvar del RÃo. It was also the setting for the Game of Thrones #TRLT
The UK has lots of castles & forts but I quite like #TowerofLondon The landscape around it is constantly changing #London #TRLT A2
replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel When I went to Iolani Palace they also explained that they had running water / plumbing which was pretty rare at that time. #trlt
replying to @FE_photograph @FE_photograph We were glad we finally made it to Windsor Castle on our last visit to London! #TRLT
replying to @JLipowski @JLipowski @LindaPeters64 A2: the Chateau de Mareuil is fascinating. It’s a private home, is crumbling and is super dramatic. A modest castle by French standards, it belonged to a wealthy land owner. I love it cos it’s not a fairytale! #TRLT
A2 This is in the former GDR & was in ruins until 1993. Finished in 2013. It had UNESCO World Heritage status for its cross-border cultural landscape. One can walk through its park from Germany to Poland.
It is fascinating to experience up close how far Europe has come. #TRLT
A2. The only forts nearby in Idaho are now Indian Casinos. However, there is Minidoka National Historic Site, which is a former Japanese internment camp. Definitely fascinating and tragically sad. #TRLT
replying to @HeidiSiefkas @HeidiSiefkas @LindaPeters64 Pazo de Castrelos (kind of a palace) belonged to a wealth family in Vigo. As there was no heir, they donated it to the city. The conditions were to keep the surname of the family: Quiñones de León, to be allocated as a museum, and to never be in private hands. #TRLT
