replying to @TravelAtWill @TravelAtWill @FE_photograph Yes, Oman is known for its forts. #TRLT
replying to @HHLifestyleTrav @RTWBarefoot Fort du Hà was actually just an ego thing from Charles VII - just a reminder of his claim over Bordeaux in the Hundred Years War ;-) #TRLT

A3 Today it seems surprising to find a huge fortress right in the centre of a city, but historically Bukhara was frequently under attack and citizens would have hidden inside the Ark. #TRLT
replying to @SoloTravelStory @SoloTravelStory @TheTravelCamel @LindaPeters64 There's a few iron-age hill forts like that. There may not be much there now, but there's enough of a setting to imagine what it might have felt like #trlt

replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel A3) Fort Matanzas (Photo 1) in Florida falls into that category, its more of an outpost along a river inlet that was used to warn troops north at Castello de San Marcos (Photos 2 & 3) in St Augustine. #TRLT

replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel A3: I'd say the Newman Castle as it's way off the road and on private property nestled in a neighborhood. You'd never believe that this structure exists in that area #TRLT check out what I mean - https://t.co/EhMckw6RxY

A3: one of the most unusual locations that I've visited was Ehrenbreitstein Fortress in Kloblenz, #Germany.
An amazing feat of architecture & self reliance, Ehrenbreitstein, is beautifully perched high above the Rhine river, an ideal viewpoint for safety.
