#trlt greetings from Glasgow. Which, given the Roman Empire built a wall through what are now its suburbs, I guess is an Ancient Place.
There's almost nothing *left* of said wall, mind. They were only up there for about 25 years, too ...
#TRLT Hi there. Joining you from beautiful #Slovenia. Last week I was in the Julian Alps in the Soča Valley. @TheTravelCamel

A1: One of my favourite Ancient Places is the impressive Persepolis in Iran. Imagine this place when it was at the height of its power. #TRLT
replying to @t_jh2009 @t_jh2009 @JLipowski @RTWBarefoot @LindaPeters64 Does Shemp usually wear that seemingly unimpressed gaze? #TRLT
A1 Sicily is a great place for ancient ruins. These photos (taken in the last millennium) show the Greek theatre at Syracuse, a mosaic at Piazza Armerina and the Valley of the Temples (with one of the temples), Agrigento #TRLT @postcardsplaces

@TheTravelCamel I'd imagine it wasn't a popular posting either. If you'd been born/brought up in Syria, this would have been a bit of a 'wtf' place. And many of them had been.
Hadrian's Wall, some 110 miles south, was almost tropical by comparison LOL. #trlt
replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel @t_jh2009 @JLipowski @LindaPeters64 i was thinking that too #trlt

#trlt A1: oh. favourite? idk. So many places, so many ruins.
This is either Herculaneum or Pompeii tho. I preferred Herculanium. It felt more like a small town I'd be comfortable wandering around in.
replying to @DrNeilMatthews @DrNeilMatthews @postcardsplaces Was supposed to be there in early 2020 - but along came the pandemic. Hope to visit one day in the not too distant future. #TRLT

A1. I loved the Great Wall between Jinshanling and Simatai. Walked for ages without encountering other people. So impressive. (Persepolis is prob my actual favorite but I've posted pics of it many times for other topics, haha) #TRLT

#trlt A1: Newark Castle? At least two English Kings have died there or thereabouts. And while it looks fairly complete from this angle, that's pretty much literally all there is lol.
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot I also preferred Herculanium - it felt more intimate and the quality of the ruins were better. #TRLT

#TRLT A1 Dougga, an ancient city in #Tunisia, has some pretty spectacular ruins. Takes a whole day to walk around. @TheTravelCamel
@JLipowski @RTWBarefoot @LindaPeters64
replying to @RTWBarefoot @RTWBarefoot Krak des Chevaliers is a bit like that. From the outside it looks very intact, but once inside, there is far less to see. Still extremely impressive. #TRLT

#trlt A1: Prasat Preah Vihear, in Cambodia (just!), that was quite cool - Ankhor-era ruins with almost no visitors.

replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel I did it quite long time ago when I was in better shape, but I wouldn't say difficult, though I wouldn't want to do it on a blistering hot day. If you have flexibility to take your time (I took pretty much all day), that helps. But there are def some steep stair sections. #trlt
