A2. The Palace of Peace and Reconciliation is unmistakable on the Nur Sultan skyline. While the pyramid was only completed in 2006, it boasts a rich history in its role as a spiritual centre for many of Kazakhstan’s denominations. #TRLT

A2 Possibly Karakorum, because we were travelling through Mongolia and suddenly this huge, historic building was just...there, slightly buried by the desert and with no-one else around #TRLT

A2. Baghdad’s Kadhimiya Mosque dates back to the 16th century and is the largest Shia site in the Iraqi capital. Dominated by two glowing domes, this ornate place of worship is one of Islam’s architectural wonders. #TRLT

A2 Has to be @strawbhillhouse in Twickenham. The 18C creation of Horace Walpole, and a building which anticipated the Gothic Revival movement. It is rivetingly, theatrically extraordinary. @BradtGuides #TRLT

A2: Considering the time it was constructed (1500 years ago), the Hagia Sophia is Istanbul is arguably the most impressive historical building I've seen. #TRLT

A2. Bobo’s old mosque is the largest in Burkina Faso, and a quintessential example of Sudanese mud-brick architecture. We’d happily travel across the seas to see these distinctive ‘sugarloaf’ minarets up close! #TRLT

A2. Berati is one of the oldest cities in Albania and the view of classical 18th-century white houses climbing up the hillside is etched into the mind of everyone who visits! #TRLT

A2: One of the most memorable historic buildings that I've visited on The Road Less Travelled is the Holy Cross Curch & former Mission in Santa Cruz, California; a first site for ecclesiastical conversion of the Amah Mutsun people, the original inhabitants of the region.
#TRLT

A2: It's already featured this evening, but the Registan in Samarkand has got to be my candidate.
Truly spectacular.

A2. In a city of such religious and historic poignancy, Jerusalem’s Old City sits like the jewel in the crown and Temple Mount is its diamond. Venerated as one of the holiest sites in the world, this striking compound was built around AD 685. #TRLT

A2 #TRLT @BradtGuides its modern - and already is a historical building - the endlessly impressive Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat #Oman - superlative workmanship - and very cohesive design - a masterpiece.

replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel @BradtGuides A2. I adore the Reichstag, though I’ve yet to take a good picture of it. It’s not quite my favourite Parliament building, but Bern’s Bundeshaus and Canberra’s New Parliament don’t seem as historic. #TRLT

A2 The most impressive monument I've visited - and one I return to time and again - is the Shah-i Zinda in Samarkand. The tiles are completely mesmerising. #TRLT

replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel @BradtGuides A2: So hard to say. I'm fascinated by clocks and the fact that towns were centered around them and now most of them don't work, just shells of their former existence. #TRLT. But always cool to see the old ones that still work.
