Celebrations & Festivals

A2 #TRLT About a decade ago, I was able to spend Turkey’s National Day in Istanbul. They celebrate much like July 4 is celebrated in the US complete with a fireworks show on the Bosporus Bridge everyone just leaves their cars in the streets & watches.

A2- I wouldn't say it's lesser known, but #Carnival in 🇮🇹#Venice doesn't get mentioned enough

@CaitlinKellyNYC @postcardsplaces Yes, and cross country ski trails, where solitude is cherished.

replying to @loyaltytravels @loyaltytravels @TheTravelCamel @DoroLef @LindaPeters64 @JLipowski @t_jh2009 The trouble I have with snow is a) it doesn't stay undisturbed for very long, which leads to b) it turns into grey slush within a day. Snow in the (sub)urban UK isn't very endearing. #trlt
The Lumiere festivals pack in the crowds with brightly coloured illuminations #trlt A2
A2. Just back from Natchitoches, @LouisianaTravel where they have a month-long Christmas festival & it was lovely. But definitely felt off the beaten track [even though the town inspired "Steel Magnolias" and is where Black artist Clementine Hunter was born]. #TRLT https://t.co/prsOiET0x3
A2: a favourite lesser-known celebration or festival that I have observed on The Road Less Travelled? A yoga festival in Whistler, B.C. Canada.

A3 #TRLT Sydney NYE, I had seen it on TV for years. Streets in Sydney are closed & everyone walks to their next destination when it’s over.
replying to @t_jh2009 A3) I haven't specifically traveled for a celebration or festival, though I would like to see the United States' oldest Mardi Gras in Mobile Alabama. #TRLT

replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel @LindaPeters64 A3. We didn’t travel there specifically for it but once we knew about it we tweaked our schedule to ensure we’d be in Lalibela, Ethiopia for the festival of St. George at the rock-carved church dedicated to the saint. #TRLT
Plan to visit the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island when you visit British Columbia. https://t.co/P5Fs3B5MAy We found so many great spots to explore. #TTOT #TRLT @HelloBC @TourismVI
I had seen Sydney NYE on TV for as long as I can remember and was always jealous that they had one unlike London and that it was warm. So pleased I managed to witness it #trlt A3
replying to @TheTravelCamel @TheTravelCamel @LindaPeters64 A3: I've tried to do NY in many different places. Fascinated that each country does something different. Maybe Japan is the one I like the best as they go to the Temple on NYE. #trlt https://t.co/RtdC0J9pcm
