replying to @TravelDudes @TravelDudes @Travel_Session A2 - Apps like WhatsApp and Skype allow me to live without phone connectivity as long as there is internet connectivity #TTOT

A2. We don’t. If we’re out of the US for longer than a month, we notify our carrier and pay $10 to suspend our cell phone line.
We use WiFi when we’re abroad and enjoy being offline most of the time.
We spent 2 months in India and got a SIM card there but rarely used it. #TTOT

A2: Just get a data SIM there, they're so much cheaper these days and you can do voice calls through apps like Messenger #ttot

A2 for me when travelling in Europe there’s no issues with roaming costs so it’s business as usual.

If Im travelling further afield -and need my phone for connectivity on the move then I’ll get a local sim or portable wifi router… #ttot

replying to @SonjaSwissLife @SonjaSwissLife @Travel_Session A2- I'm one of those people who actually enjoy the place they are in rather than living it with the phone so I mostly turn off cellular data and roaming while travelling and use wi-fi at the local places instead. #TTOT

replying to @SonjaSwissLife @SonjaSwissLife @Travel_Session A2. DON'T hunt around and buy a local SIM. Use one from your OWN country. Much more expensive, especially for data - so you won't be spending your precious travel time online. Remove the temptation. #TTOT

A2: It simply rocks to live in Europe. 😀 Luckily the EU took care of it & that the phone companies had to get rid of the roaming costs. Otherwise I'll try get myself a data simcard abroad or a data service provider. #TTOT https://t.co/lrTX5b3ENS

A2 This sounds like a reasonable compromise with enjoying the place & later communicating about it. @travelhouseuk #TTOT https://t.co/Kr21xiiYlq

A2 Africa is great for mobile coverage, the remote safari camps use radio and satphone. Enjoy being 'off the grid' -its a holiday. If you run a business & need to check in daily some camps have WiFi https://t.co/FN53fuGmv4

A2 Yes, for those lucky people in the EU. I'm still buying a SIM card now & then with my Swiss phone. #TTOT https://t.co/8VrXt86aLY

replying to @ataxiascot @ataxiascot @Travel_Session A2 The cost is definitely a deterrent from using too much phone service @ataxiascot #TTOT

A2- I use a few different strategies depending on where I'm going. The key is to do your research before and know what your options are #ttot #travelingsession

replying to @SonjaSwissLife @SonjaSwissLife @Travel_Session A2. Buy a local SIM. Traveling to certain countries for work has highlighted the risks of bringing your own phone, in terms of spyware and hacking. I bring an inexpensive unlocked phone which I can wipe when I get home without loss of any of my normal data. #ttot

A2 In the EU this isn't a problem for those with EU providers, which makes life very easy. Elsewhere I simply let people know I'm contactable on WhatsApp and rely on WiFi #TTOT
