Q4 via @L_x_3 In the spirit of "prepare for the worst, hope for the best," what steps do you take to prepare for emergencies when hiking far away from home? #TTOT
replying to @SonjaSwissLife @SonjaSwissLife @L_x_3 A4-Knowledge of the area, weather, terrain, a small first-aid kit, in addition to a little sound judgment can help ensure a safe hike. Also when you're hiking solo, let someone else know your whereabouts. #TTOT #Travel
A4 This has changed massively since I started hiking. Then a mobile phone barely existed let alone Google Maps. I wouldn't go without a GPS these days even on a day walk #TTOT
A4 If going somewhere particularly remote I'll let someone know where I've gone. I'll take layers, even though they may not be needed during the day, a battery pack for phone (which has maps and a flashlight), duct tape (for rips) and a @WatertoGoUK bottle @l_x_3 #TTOT

A4 Excellent advice esp. anything with common sense is a sure bet. #TTOT https://t.co/MDRIvqtZfg

A4 I agree, @TravelDudes it's so important to know how to read a map & campus when all else fails. #TTOT https://t.co/ATPYWcdtVb
replying to @JTSpurs @JTSpurs A4 GPS are great BUT not always so accurate in remote areas (a long ways from the satellite) Some people have been lost & never made it back. A good back-up is a detailed regional map especially in remote areas. #TTOT
