Annual #Travel Editors Roundtable
TWChats
Q12: Roundtable topic: What is something important that travel companies should do to raise the bar on sustainability/environmental practices? #TWchats
A12: Fully commit to sustainable practices - not just in the office, but at home. Do your employees walk and bike to work? Do you put time in with your local community? Do you choose renewable? Sustainability shouldn't just be a good travel memory but a new way of life. #TWChats
A12 The lens through which @afarmedia sees the world is Travel as a Force for Good: more inclusive, more sustainable, more about leaving the world in a better place than we’ve found it. We can all help plan for a post-COVID19 future in a more conscious way. #TWchats
A12: Well, I think it has to be more than just banning plastic straws (although banning plastic straws is a good practice) #TWchats

A12: (1/2) Whatever it is, it can’t be just image bullshit, it has to be real, and that will a) cost them money, which they don’t like spending, and b) invariably not be glamorous or perhaps even noticed. #TWchats
A12: Why, why, why is the temperature always set (and reset) at 65 degrees every time I walk into my room? #TWChats
A12: Invest in solar power, ditch the plastic, grow your own food, to name a few. - @jacquigiff #TWchats https://t.co/dVGaymDRCh
A12: Travel companies have to remember that these kinds of practices won't amount to much unless they take into account communities of people in the places where those practices happen. Education and employment are essential to any meaningful sustainability efforts. #TWchats https://t.co/xc2YJAoz3k

A12 The right kind of travel means many things, but is based on some core ideas: transformative travel; traveling more deeply to experience a place like a local; pursuing destinations that aren’t overcrowded; and going off the beaten path in on-the-beaten-path places. #TWchats

A12: Enriching the community should be at the forefront of any travel company’s mind, a value that @wearewildnerness has long adopted. Preserving Africa’s wildlife and supporting local partners through ecotourism has and will continue to be at the core of who they are. #TWchats

replying to @CNTraveler @CNTraveler A12. I’d like to see airports downsize. There is no need for them to be the size they are; the waste and pollution involved in lighting and heating such massive but mostly empty spaces is insane. #TWChats
