Q3 What advice about tipping would you offer a first-time traveler to Europe? #TravelSkills
What advice about tipping would I offer a first-time visitor to Europe? Just round up the bill. Leave a couple Euros. 3 or 4 per cent is more than sufficient. Much better system than we have in N. America, where workers are paid little and depend on tips. A3 #TravelSkills
A3 In Germany we usually recommend to add a tip of 10% to your bill. #TravelSkills
replying to @GermanyTourism @GermanyTourism A3 The 15%-20% customary in the U.S. is considered excessive (but likely welcomed!) in most of Europe #TravelSkills
replying to @GermanyTourism @GermanyTourism A3 Tipping in Europe is not like it is in the U.S. Usually they just round off to the nearest bill or leave a couple euros. #TravelSkills
A3. For #tipping in Europe, find out the local custom, then tip your conscience. That change probably means more to them than it does to you. #TravelSkills #travel
replying to @GermanyTourism @GermanyTourism A3 In Europe, the tip is usually included in the final bill—and it’s around 10% - but not always! #TravelSkills
replying to @travelskills @travelskills A3. We know service staff rely on gratuities for income, great service = great tips! We are generous, no matter what part of the world we are in (and some parts of the world service folks make very little money). Interested to see other responses. #TravelSkills
A3: We have specific tipping guides for a number of European countries including the U.K., Greece, and Spain: https://t.co/8li3I9usx8 #TravelSkills
A3 Our editors wrote a piece on this (linked here!). A main takeaway: In the U.K., the rule of thumb for restaurant meals is a tip of 10 to 15 percent of the total: https://t.co/8dAvFCTMXD #TravelSkills
A3: If you're sitting down eating, always tip 10 percent. If service exceeds your expectations, then you can tip more, of course! #travelskills
replying to @GermanyTourism @GermanyTourism A3 Tipping varies slightly from country to country in Europe, so read up, or ask around so you don’t look like a dumb American #TravelSkills

A3 Tipping in Europe varies by country, but it isn't an expectation as it is in the US. When I left a tip for the best pizza in Italy, the server ran out into the street after I’d left, hugged me and thanked me. #TravelSkills
A3. My advice is to not tip for the #whale in #Iceland. In fact, don’t even buy it. You should be ashamed of yourself for even considering it. What were you thinking?

A3. Tipping in Europe is different from the US. I often leave a few coins behind. It's a good deed plus you can't exchange them in; only bills. #travelskills
