Q9 When traveling in other countries, do you use credit cards more often than cash? Why? #VisaAmbassador #TravelSkills

JohnnyJet

replying to @VisaNews @VisaNews A9 I use credit cards everywhere because they’re so much easier and quicker (contactless payment) and sometimes even cheaper (if you don’t get charged foreign transaction fees) #VisaAmbassador #TravelSkills

replying to @VisaNews @VisaNews A9 Most of my business trips are nearly 100% cashless. Wish there were a way to tip hotel housekeepers with a credit card! #VisaAmbassador #TravelSkills

replying to @cjmcginnis @cjmcginnis A9: Credit cards as much as possible for the points, the security of not having a pile of cash, and tracking expenses. Unless cash is better for the vendor (like a small cost or a tip) and often it is. #TravelSkills

A9 We definitely use credit cards more often than cash. It's just easier #TravelSkills

A9: Definitely try to. It’s easier and ends up saving me money, but it’s not always possible #travelskills

A9: Yes! You can save money on ATM withdrawal and currency exchange fees as long as your credit card doesn't charge you extra for foreign transactions: https://t.co/bWVrenavsO #TravelSkills

A9 Not more often, but our editor-in-chief never leaves home without cash, usually divided into small bills. We also like to secure some local currency at an ATM at the airport upon arrival. https://t.co/82nVSrr5Il #TravelSkills

A9 When traveling in other countries, I tend to use cash more often than credit cards. It also depends on the credit card and location. Is it for work or fun, airport purchases or in town/city souvenirs, do I get points per purchase, etc. #TravelSkills

A9. Of course I do! Wracking up all those points so I can just travel more. #TravelSkills

replying to @travelskills @travelskills A9 depends on the country. Italy or Argentina cash is king. Edit that, exact change is king #TravelSkills #VisaAmbassador

replying to @travelskills @travelskills A9 Try not to except for large purchases like hotel rooms, expensive merchandise, etc. Spending plastic on smaller incidental purchases exposes the card to more chances of fraud and skimming. #TravelSkills

A9: That would depend on the country, India would mostly be cash while Japan would mostly be card. #TravelSkills

replying to @travelskills @travelskills A9: Yes, as much as possible. It is safer, exchange rate is reasonable and I get the points or miles 😊. However, it is not always possible. Especially in remote areas or countries where credit cards are not widely accepted.

replying to @KnutsonTravels @KnutsonTravels Also depends on the purchase. I use local currency for small things, but cards for Hotel, Gifts, sit-down restaurants (if I can). #TravelSkills

A9. I tend to err on the side of paying for most things with cash. The only place I've ever been turned down paying with cash is in SanFrancisco. Har! #travelskills
