Would love to explore #SouthAfrica (or anywhere else) with this bunch, editors and writers who contributed to the @SFChronicle Travel Section over the years. THAT would be a trip! @don_george @dangerjr @lauradelrosso @LarryHabegger #TravelSkills #travel
A3 It would be fun to celebrate the holidays in the Southern Hemisphere. I hear Beach Santa is a lot of fun! #TravelSkills
His love of the local cultures, beauty of nature and sense of humour make Phumuzile one of the best guides for a Southern Africa safaris. #TravelSkills #SouthAfrica
replying to @travelskills @travelskills #travelskills A3 I was very jealous reading those "December and officially summer in Australia" tweets but would be perfectly happy on the Canary Islands, too. #WhyAmINotinTenerife
RT @travelskills: Q3 Have you spent or would you like to spend the winter holidays in the Southern Hemisphere? Where and why? #TravelSkills…
I'd love to spend the holidays in southern hemisphere. But I'd have to have our kids with us. No fun going without them. We did Hawaii once for Christmas. Opened a present on the beach and dove into the ocean on Maui at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve! A3 #travelskills
replying to @LandLopers @LandLopers A1. It has to be Glasgow - Dubai - Auckland #travelskills
replying to @ArjunM1412 @ArjunM1412 Oh no! Did you have some movies loaded on your phone? That would otherwise be one very long flight! #TravelSkills
A4. What do I want to know about #SouthAfrica? Where to find the best live #music in the major cities, from traditional styles to new beats. Photo: @mahotellaqueens #TravelSkills #travel
replying to @united @united A4 If you go to South Africa be sure to visit other parts of the country and not just the cities. Going on a safari is life-changing. #TravelSkills
replying to @united @united A4 I found the Cape Town region to be a lot like San Francisco: a Mediterranean climate, viniculture, focus on food, gorgeous sweeping views. #TravelSkills
A3: I'd love to explore Africa with @dereckbeverly, @billbrysonn and @sirpatstew. What a group that would be! But not @PaulTheroux_, because I can't travel with anyone philosophically opposed to luxury hotels. #TravelSkills

A4 Captain Roy’s tip – “The people are warm, friendly and wonderful. Amazing food and wine. Try biltong (jerky), prawns, kingklip fish, rump steak with monkey gland sauce, wine from the vineyards of Stellenbosch, Peppermint Crisp.” #TravelSkills

replying to @united @united A4 South Africa has a reputation as a somewhat dangerous place, but like anywhere, if you follow the rules set out by local tourism authorities, you should be fine. Some good advice here from @lovecapetown: https://t.co/Nz3M5G1Nf2 #TravelSkills
A4: The opportunities for safari are fantastic, but don’t ignore the cities or the wine regions #travelskills
replying to @united @united A4 If you go on a safari, look into doing a hot air balloon safari. It’s the best excursion I’ve ever done, and I’m afraid of heights! #TravelSkills
A4 Well, did you know that you can do a safari on horseback? That was pretty cool! #TravelSkills
replying to @LiveandLetsFly @LiveandLetsFly @TravelCodex @garyleff @pizzainmotion @thepointsguy - what's the easiest way to fly to South Africa using miles? Share your advice on the #TravelSkills chat happening right now!
A4: It's easy to want to fit too much into an itinerary, considering the wealth of activities and South Africa's distance from America. Focus on your top priorities only. Even if you can't go back, act like you can, otherwise you'll run yourself ragged #TravelSkills
A4: You can get excited for your trip by touring South Africa virtually via Google Maps: https://t.co/y5tjfAP3PR #TravelSkills
replying to @theplanetd @theplanetd A3 New Zealand, as a first-time solo traveller. Looks pretty, feels safe, plenty of action. But if I get a better deal with South Africa, I'll choose it. #TravelSkills

#travelskills Q1: Went on safari, based in Richard Branson's Ulusaba lounge. Later boarded @rovosrailafrica for spectacular views -- so many flamingoes, the water was pink.
replying to @cjmcginnis @cjmcginnis A3: never been to the Southern Hemisphere 😬. Would love to do a safari in Africa or go to Moorea/Bora Bora #TravelSkills
