Q5: How much research do you do ahead of visiting a new place in terms of safety? What kinds of things do you like to know ahead of time? #WeekendWanderlust #TravelHappy

A5. Safety isn't a huge concern. I'll research neighborhoods to avoid and read any recommendations from other travelers, especially solo female travelers. #WeekendWanderlust #TravelHappy

A5: I don't know how to calculate this for sure. But, I do try to get a good idea of the best areas to stay away from, what are the big no-nos, and popular scams.

replying to @ABritSoutherner @ABritSoutherner A5) I usually start research when I am booking flights or right around. I like to read blogs as well as TripAdvisor to get an idea of parts of cities to eat, lodge, explore. I also read the local papers closer to to get an idea for political climate. #WeekendWanderlust

A5 Depends where I'm going. I usually do a quick search on tourist scams. I definitely did a little more research before going to Mexico. And it was much safer than the research indicated. #WeekendWanderlust https://t.co/FeOEKitId7

A5: I do TONS of #research - I like to take travel “advisories” with a grain of salt as many are too broad and alarmist - instead, I consult multiple news sources re: civil unrest, strikes, violence, etc. to get a picture of what risks a place may entail! 📚🤓#weekendwanderlust

A5: I will do a bit of research. I planned a trip to my birthplace Detroit. I loved it. Great architecture and well worth roaming. But stick to downtown and midtown and as with any big city, don't be hanging around late at night. #WeekendWanderlust #TravelHappy Common sense.
