replying to @obligatraveler @obligatraveler That is awesome! That's been on our radar - probably on the To Do list far too long now. We rode the dome car in NY and down the Pacific Coast, too. BEST way to see the scenery! #WeekendWanderlust
#WeekendWanderlust A3: We’d love to take a long train journey, but so far it’s been mostly point-to-point for us. #travel
replying to @WWTravelChat @WWTravelChat A2: Not sure if this counts, but walking the coal train tracks that ran past my grandparents' farms in the 1960s! They still heated the house with coal, so we carried a coal bucket & picked up the coal that flew from the cars! Great childhood memory! #weekendwanderlust!
A1: my order is car>train>plane. Here in the northwest we have relatively poor infrastructure for trains so our trains are slow and the tracks are overtaken by freight. The train is more comfortable than flying in terms of seating and NO TSA! #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @TravelLatte @TravelLatte What do you consider a long journey? #WeekendWanderlust
#WeekendWanderlust A 3) I'll take any train ride, as long as there is something to look at, or good people watching along the way
replying to @LindayForDayz @LindayForDayz That’s awesome! Good luck - how many do you have so far? #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @CourseCharted @CourseCharted It was fantastic, despite the rain we had. Totally worth it - we only went NYC to Plattsburgh, but it goes all the way to Montreal. Great trip! #WeekendWanderlust
A3: We have only traveled by train with an itinerary so far. Maybe one day we will just randomly roll down the tracks #weekendwanderlust
replying to @wildheartedblog @wildheartedblog We're thinking one where you spend the night on the train, or maybe in a town on the way. Coast Starlight was long - 8 or 10 hours - but still just one day. #WeekendWanderlust
Q4: A lot of small and historic railroads are now tourist attractions. Have you been on one that you really enjoyed? #WeekendWanderlust

replying to @TravelLatte @TravelLatte A3: The best are trains you take for the scenic adventure! #weekendwanderlust
replying to @byland_and_sea @byland_and_sea What was the itinerary? Also, hi Jenn! :) #WeekendWanderlust
A3: I did an overnight train from the arctic to Are in #Sweden and it went so well - I was nervous bc the trains are known to break down sometimes due to extreme cold! 😬🚊❄️ #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @TravelLatte @TravelLatte Nice! Yes I’d love to do the trans-Siberian. Been on my list forever. #WeekendWanderlust
The #streetart around the town was simply stunning when we visited #Napa Valley in #California . https://t.co/Y0pPMqZpT5 #WeekendWanderlust #streetartchat @StreetArtChat
A2: My favorite train excursion was from Skagway, AK through the Yukon Territory. I was 11 so I didn't get any pictures. Back in the day you didn't even need a passport! #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @LitchfieldFund @LitchfieldFund Yes they are! @Via_Rail has a series they call Adventure Journeys - and they look so scenic, too! #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @CourseCharted @CourseCharted Oh no! I would be so cold haha #WeekendWanderlust
A4: We recently went on a little ride on the state railway of Thailand. It was historic and it was a cool, short ride. Here is the historic bridge over the River Kwai! #weekendwanderlust
#WeekendWanderlust A4: We have ridden a few local #trains that are really just attractions now. Our fave so far? Colorado’s Georgetown Loop Railroad! So cute & fun – and the town is too! #travel
A1- Trains are cool because you can get up and walk around, visit the bar car, and just all around as compared to dealing with the lines and security at airports #WeekendWanderlust #travelingsession
#weekendwanderlust A 4) We did the Strasburg Rail Road in Lancaster, PA a lot when I was younger and I always enjoyed it. I was obsessed with historical fiction and liked pretending I was one my book characters
replying to @ABritSoutherner @ABritSoutherner Nine so far. I'm crossing off Kansas and Missouri next weekend. #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @wildheartedblog @wildheartedblog Yes! Also the Orient Express from London to Istanbul - that would be epic! #WeekendWanderlust
A3 Prefer the spontaneity! Exploring this Swiss Alps is amazing and just heading on any of the iconic routes such as Golden Pass or Bernina Express is the best! #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @CourseCharted @CourseCharted Yikes! Bet it was gorgeous though! #WeekendWanderlust
Q5: There are some iconic train journeys around the world. Is there one (or more?) on your bucket list? Tell us about it! #WeekendWanderlust

replying to @TravelLatte @TravelLatte A4: Santa Fe, NM has some great ones, the Heber Valley Railroad in Utah (The Heber Creeper) in Utah is fun! #weekendwanderlust
replying to @LindayForDayz @LindayForDayz I bet that was an amazing route! Very envious! We really want to explore Canada’s Rocky Mountaineer route! #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @LindayForDayz @LindayForDayz That would be awesome! Bet it was gorgeous, too. You'll just have to recreate that trip! :) #WeekendWanderlust
A2- My first ride on the Shinkansen was pretty memorable #WeekendWanderlust #travelingsession
replying to @CourseCharted @CourseCharted The train we were on they opened just fine! Frequently stuck my head out and was awesome for pics! The Golden Pass they didn’t open but we found the Bernina to be even more spectacular. #WeekendWanderlust

replying to @TravelLatte @TravelLatte A5: I always have hoped to do a train all the way across Canada to Alaska! #weekendwanderlust
replying to @LindayForDayz @LindayForDayz Looking forward to following your adventures in your quest to 50! You will get there! #WeekendWanderlust
A5: the railways and stations in #Stockholm are particularly iconic for their art - just look at that #mural! 🚊💙 #WeekendWanderlust

A3: I've only taken point-to-point journeys so my experience is limited. I'm currently poring over the Amtrak website trying to figure out how to best use the train when I go. PDX to BOS is only $260 in Sept. #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @TravelLatte @TravelLatte Great minds think alike! We just mentioned that! Banff and Jasper are spectacular spots in the Canadian Rockies. I will say that road tripping around these parts is pretty awesome too! #WeekendWanderlust
