Q5: Do you feel like social media accurately represents a destination?
#WeekendWanderlust

A5: Typically no, but I think there are exceptions to that. I love art and so I love seeing doctored photos too but I think it would be great for creators to share the original photo too so people aren't left disappointed. #WeekendWanderlust

A5: There have been a few places that photoshop was the better version but I also think the experience of over tourism proves a more critical role we all have to preserve those spaces. #WeekendWanderlust

A5: Social media is a blessing and a curse. It can accurately depict a destination, but so often it does not. It usually does a great job of representing a tourist's view of a destination, but rarely represents the resident's view of a place. #WeekendWanderlust

A5: It can be if you're looking at content produced by people who live there and not just other travelers/tourists. #WeekendWanderlust

A5: No. I feel SM can be slanted and biased. There is so much more to a destination than a carefully crafted Instragram photo! #weekendwanderlust

replying to @WWTravelChat @WWTravelChat A5: Most times yes. @Tripadvisor has some great contributors that write very detailed articles. @Mapquest I also use that will allow people to ask questions and get answers very quickly by local guides. Again, another social platform I need to stay on top of. #WeekendWanderlust

#WeekendWanderlust A5) I would say take people's Instagram pics with a grain of salt, but I don't think great travel pics are a new trend, it's been happening since the invention of the camera

A5 (cont.): I do find it helpful to search locations & hashtags on Instagram to see a "local" perspective of a place. #WeekendWanderlust

A5- Not at all. I had never heard of Malta before I booked a trip and it is one of my favorite places in the world. You won't see much about it on social media, but you'll see 100 post saying how great Paris is (it's not) #WeekendWanderlust #travelingsession

A5.
It depends on the medium. Some blogs give you an accurate representation while some pictures are so photoshopped that it’s barely possible to recognize the destination 🙈
