Q8: Do you think social media is to blame – in part or in whole – for over tourism?

A8: In part, for sure. Hard to know exactly how much though. I also wouldn't say it's just social media but access to more information in general. #WeekendWanderlust

A8: Somewhat because some of us are responsible. That is a key world for some of these folks that don’t respect a destination, it doesn’t have to be the pyramids to have to have respect. Travel ethically! #WeekendWanderlust

A8: Social media plays a role in over tourism, but it is NOT the sole cause. More people are able to travel now than ever before, so we are bound to seek out the same places. #WeekendWanderlust

A8: I think it's a huge contributor and something everyone needs to think about moving forward. This is something I really personally struggle with when it comes to traveling and even having my blog. #weekendwanderlust

replying to @WWTravelChat @WWTravelChat A8: In part, yes. Especially when it comes to Instagram and all those beautiful pictures. It always makes me long for the road to head out to those places. #WeekendWanderlust

A8- I think over tourism was a problem before social media. If used properly, social media can help reduce over tourism by introducing people to new places to visit #WeekendWanderlust #travelingsession

replying to @WWTravelChat @WWTravelChat A8. Yes, I think social media has been a major cause of over-tourism. @CasualTravelist picutres of Rome were unbelievable. #weekendwanderlust

replying to @ABritSoutherner @ABritSoutherner A8: Yes, in part. Read esp involving Instagram.
On the other end, read about these places that “secret”, then suddenly, cause plastered out there, they are no longer “secret”. #WeekendWanderlust

A8.

To a certain degree yes. These days more people travel which also contributes to overtourism. 😞

That’s why it’s so important to promote sustainable and ethical traveling and tourism 🌿

I love traveling, but it shouldn’t harm our planet!

A8: I think there have been some clear cases of overtourism because of Instagram, but I think it's one of several factors. I definitely notice though when places become "hot" bc I'm seeing the same posts everywhere! #WeekendWanderlust

A8: Connecting with people is a great way to explore. People are taking the #scenicroute more and more which we always encourage and helps spread out the tourist in cities everywhere. Going off the grid is a great place to start: https://t.co/Pwh6RLBlEG #WeekendWanderlust
