#Travel & Social Media
WeekendWanderlust
replying to @Travel_Session @Travel_Session That's good to know about Paris. I always thought it was over rated. #WeekendWanderlust
A3:
It really depends on ones definition. 😂
I once planned a spontaneous trip to Australia because a company advertised West coast #roadtrips. I had no idea when it came to the route, but it was the best trip ever! 🚌🌿🇦🇺 #WeekendWanderlust
#WeekendWanderlust #Travel Chat Q7: What is your favorite form of social media to use on a trip?
replying to @TravelLatte @TravelLatte A6. I prefer to disconnect while traveling and enjoy the moment #weekendwanderlust
A7: Facebook, I feel like thats seen quicker but maybe not lol Instagram stories for sure but there its like IG still is really weird about when my audience views it. #WeekendWanderlust
A7: Instagram! Join me at https://t.co/xCHWgJORAW - I'm leaving for @visitmaine tonight! #WeekendWanderlust
A7: Currently I use Instagram the most when traveling because I really enjoy the "story" feature. It lets me share what I'm doing without feeling compelled to write a lot. #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @byland_and_sea @byland_and_sea @TravelLatte That is funny! I was shocked yet happy to find out that while traveling cross country the first rest stop after crossing a state boarder has free state maps. #WeekendWanderlust
A6- On the personal side I stay social while I'm traveling. On the blogging side, I wait until I get home.....and sober up
#WeekendWanderlust #travelingsession
replying to @ABritSoutherner @ABritSoutherner A1: Twitter & Instagram are the two we use most often! #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @brimiers @brimiers That sounds overwhelming and stressful to me. I usually just check out @TripAdvisor and @Yelp. If I want to go really in-depth, I search for the destination + "blog reviews". Sometimes videos of the place come up which feels really accurate. #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @obligatraveler @obligatraveler In one sense, it probably happens less today, as it's easier to verify, and see other photos/content about a place. Back in the day, the one photo of a destination might've been the only one. #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @brimiers @brimiers If I do post to Facebook during the day, I usually don't post on it that night. #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @brimiers @brimiers Especially since our cell phones are usally our main cameras #weekendwanderlust
replying to @ABritSoutherner @ABritSoutherner A2: Social media is a great source of inspiration! From meeting great people to finding gems around the world. #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @aandj8804 @aandj8804 @ABritSoutherner I think it's also made it easier for local voices to be heard / found. And also more up-to-date. #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @StevenOnTheMove @StevenOnTheMove Think that is why I tend to wait til l get home and post on all the platforms. Yet I hate it since it kinda feels stale to me, but it is still fresh to those I know on social media. #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @ABritSoutherner @ABritSoutherner A3: I don’t think so- social media is great, but solely relying on it may set unrealistic expectations. #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @ABritSoutherner @ABritSoutherner A4: Not necessarily replaced, but enhanced. #weekendwanderlust
A4.
I cannot speak for others, but this is my main research material for a potential #roadtrip . 🚌
I love #travel guides! 🧳
Blogs and SM are amazing resources, but they’ll never replace my guides 🌿
#WeekendWanderlust
replying to @TravelLatte @TravelLatte A7. Instagram to share pictures or our FB page. My friends on my personal FB don't travel. #weekendwanderlust
replying to @WanderlustJ1 @WanderlustJ1 It's why I try to post about one thing per day on each platform. However, I don't always post the same content on each platform. For example, I'll share a foodie pic on IG, but definitely won't post that to Facebook. #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @TravelLatte @TravelLatte A7: Instagram since I mostly take pictures and its easy to quickly send. #WeekendWanderlust
A7- When I travel it's all about the pictures, so Instagram it is

Q8: Do you think social media is to blame – in part or in whole – for over tourism?

Q8: Do you think social media is to blame – in part or in whole – for over tourism? #WeekendWanderlust
Q8: Do you think social media is to blame – in part or in whole – for over tourism? #WeekendWanderlust
A8: In part, for sure. Hard to know exactly how much though. I also wouldn't say it's just social media but access to more information in general. #WeekendWanderlust
A8: Somewhat because some of us are responsible. That is a key world for some of these folks that don’t respect a destination, it doesn’t have to be the pyramids to have to have respect. Travel ethically! #WeekendWanderlust
A8: Social media plays a role in over tourism, but it is NOT the sole cause. More people are able to travel now than ever before, so we are bound to seek out the same places. #WeekendWanderlust
A5.
It depends on the medium. Some blogs give you an accurate representation while some pictures are so photoshopped that it’s barely possible to recognize the destination 🙈
#WeekendWanderlust
replying to @ABritSoutherner
@ABritSoutherner A6: “Prefer” to disconnect completely, but does not always happen. Have recently been doing a better job at it.
If do stay “social”, will do it at the end of the day. In bed in the hostel.
#WeekendWanderlust
A5: Social media offers up a lot of opinions when it comes to travel. We think the more info, the better! You can take all the info that you've learned, and start your adventure off right! Get started here: https://t.co/G9vsVgSzUC #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @NomadsPassport @NomadsPassport We love the visual aspect of Instagram, but it's so much easier to connect with people on Twitter. Looking forward to checking out your Insta-feed now! :) #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @wildheartedblog @wildheartedblog @visitmaine Got ya on follow there! https://t.co/q0Isd90HDE is my Insta page! #WeekendWanderlust
People will put it on Social because they think they will move them up the social ladder but those idiots just look like idiots. Rant over #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @WanderlustJ1 @WanderlustJ1 @Travel_Session I love Paris. IMHO you just have to find the places there that work for you. Of course, if you don't like cities, it may be worth skipping. #WeekendWanderlust
A8: I think it's a huge contributor and something everyone needs to think about moving forward. This is something I really personally struggle with when it comes to traveling and even having my blog. #weekendwanderlust

replying to @ABritSoutherner @ABritSoutherner Not sure we prefer to stay social. We try to. Some days we do better than others. ;) #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @TravelLatte @TravelLatte @ABritSoutherner So true! I often feel travel guide books go out of date quickly! There is usually new or updated information online. #WeekendWanderlust
replying to @WWTravelChat @WWTravelChat A8: In part, yes. Especially when it comes to Instagram and all those beautiful pictures. It always makes me long for the road to head out to those places. #WeekendWanderlust
A8- I think over tourism was a problem before social media. If used properly, social media can help reduce over tourism by introducing people to new places to visit #WeekendWanderlust #travelingsession
Make sure to use the #WeekendWanderlust hashtag to stay connected. *no pun intended*
A6.
During some trips I share my adventures digitally, but every now and then I turn off my phone. 🌿
Being offline definitely has its advantages, but I love being able to share the amazing places I see with whoever is interested 🌅🌿

A6: We are all about unplugging while on vacation! It is key to making every moment a special one. It can be difficult, so we've got some tips to help you out: https://t.co/Vj1QI9tb4w #WeekendWanderlust #AlamoDriveHappy
