Beating the Heat
gearmeout

replying to @VTPaddlePups @VTPaddlePups Being near the water, especially with dogs is a good thing...everyone can cool off in the creek! #GearMeOut

replying to @UST_Survival @UST_Survival A3) Neither, I love summer, but for me the best hiking is spring and fall when temps are cooler, one reason is I sweat like a pig. #GearMeOut

replying to @t_jh2009 @t_jh2009 @UST_Survival @Todd_the_Hiker I knew there was a reason I live in the north. Are you heading up to Tahoe to get out of the heat? #gearmeout

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @MeToddScott @Todd_the_Hiker We here in the Great Lakes tend to be more humid than hot, it is just super uncomfortable when that humidity hits #GearMeOut

replying to @UST_Survival @UST_Survival The best is always winter...no heat, no bugs, no people #GearMeOut

replying to @PicklesTravel @PicklesTravel I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! #GearMeOut

replying to @MeToddScott @MeToddScott @UST_Survival I don’t cope with heat well at all. #GearMeOut

replying to @UST_Survival @UST_Survival A4- I’m a good Minnesotan- I’d pick winter over summer heat any day #gearmeout

replying to @babskiies @babskiies The breeze from the water definitely helps to keep it cooler and much more tolerable, as well! #GearMeOut

replying to @GPJohnston @GPJohnston @Todd_the_Hiker You've got to stay hydrated and replace those salts, especially in those higher temps. #GearMeOut

replying to @danielhuman @danielhuman @MeToddScott @Todd_the_Hiker Bummer. I'm with you on the "super uncomfortable" thing. Hate feeling like I just walked out of a shower and can't get dry. #gearmeout

RT @naturetechfam: That feeling when you meet an
old-new friend at an incredible #nationalpark! 🤗 #rockymountainNP #GearMeOut #parkchat mee…

replying to @UST_Survival @UST_Survival A3) If I had to pick between the two I'd go with Winter as long as I don't get caught in a snowstorm and have to pay for another night at my timeshare again. 😕 #GearMeOut

replying to @GPJohnston @GPJohnston What outdoor activities do you like during the summer? #GearMeOut

Q4: What clothing considerations do you make when dressing for summer outdoor adventures? #GearMeOut

replying to @UST_Survival @UST_Survival A3 well it is tough to snowshoe in the summer, and our lakes are frozen in winter preventing paddlng...I prefer hikng in a snowy winter. Summers are for paddling Nd cycling...and hiking for a change of pace #gearmeout

replying to @t_jh2009 @t_jh2009 Good to know your limits and stick to them! Not worth risking your health! #GearMeOut

replying to @danielhuman @danielhuman Most definitely. There’s no cooling off in the summer #GearMeOut

replying to @babskiies @babskiies @UST_Survival The ticks are dormant too! #GearMeOut

replying to @UST_Survival @UST_Survival @beckyjlomax @Todd_the_Hiker first time in New Orleans I almost died. Walked out of the airport and physically fell backwards when I hit the wall of humidity. I paid my cab driver an extra 20 bucks if he could get me 6 feet closer to the door to the hotel lol Literally fell out of the cab #gearmeout

replying to @Todd_the_Hiker @Todd_the_Hiker A4: In Texas, honestly it's the same all year. I just don't take a sweatshirt for the summer. #GearMeOut

replying to @GPJohnston @GPJohnston Hydration is king and the electrolytes definitely give an added boost! #GearMeOut

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @UST_Survival @Todd_the_Hiker No, it'll be crowded plus even though the temperature might be lower with the elevation and thin mountain air it will feel about the same here. #GearMeOut

replying to @Todd_the_Hiker @Todd_the_Hiker A4: usually something very light with SPF quality. Always need to protect yourself from sun with clothing or sun screen.#GearMeOut

replying to @UST_Survival @UST_Survival Oh my goodness. Better try it out someday. Any type of skiing. All good. Just means adding a lot more gear in the garage. #gearmeout

replying to @UST_Survival @UST_Survival I still hike in summer since the high country here is free of snow then, but also anything near water, kayaking, swimming, fishing, beachcombing. #GearMeOut

replying to @Todd_the_Hiker @Todd_the_Hiker Never cotton and always moisture wicking synthetics #GearMeOut

replying to @MeToddScott @MeToddScott @beckyjlomax @Todd_the_Hiker I am completely not surprised by that. Even when you live with it for a while it gets you. #GearMeOut

replying to @Todd_the_Hiker @Todd_the_Hiker @PicklesTravel My son and I started running after the ice cream truck today - he didn't see us and kept going. I was so disappointed. #GearMeOut

replying to @MeToddScott @MeToddScott @UST_Survival @Todd_the_Hiker Hahaha. I shouldn't laugh. I'd be doing the same thing. #gearmeout

replying to @beckyjlomax
@beckyjlomax @Todd_the_Hiker there are flux in weather patterns and go through cycles, but we tend to be getting more moisture from the gulf when we would never get that air. The warming arctic temps have allowed that air to move now.
So over time we will probably see it was #gearmeout

replying to @Todd_the_Hiker @Todd_the_Hiker Exactly! Best chat to finish out those last 15 minutes of any hike! #gearmeout

replying to @danielhuman @danielhuman @UST_Survival As always Dan, you make a damn fine point! #GearMeOut

replying to @GPJohnston @GPJohnston Sounds like you make the best of it! #GearMeOut

replying to @t_jh2009 @t_jh2009 @UST_Survival @Todd_the_Hiker Aha. A little math equation to the temperatures! #gearmeout

replying to @UST_Survival @UST_Survival I have to get outside year-round or I go nuts! #GearMeOut

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax I just need to make sure my family accidentally leaves the camera at home. #GearMeOut

replying to @UST_Survival @UST_Survival @MeToddScott @beckyjlomax Florida in summer...95 degrees & 95 % humidity...glasses fog up when walking out of an air conditioned building! #GearMeOut

replying to @Todd_the_Hiker @Todd_the_Hiker Exactly, if I really want to see what it looks like from the top of the mountain I can look at photos on the internet. #GearMeOut

replying to @babskiies @babskiies @UST_Survival I am like a polar bear. i will jump in the water to deal with the weather. #gearmeout

A4 #GearMeOut I tend to wear lightweight merino wool in the summer (it keeps you cooler, dries fast and doesn't stink) https://t.co/mEQ8yCaj2X

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @t_jh2009 @Todd_the_Hiker You come here for survival and stay for the math lesson. #GearMeOut

replying to @danielhuman @danielhuman @Todd_the_Hiker Im disappointed for you! 😢Also maybe a bit disappointed that you didn’t get video of you running after said truck 😉 #gearmeout

replying to @beckyjlomax @beckyjlomax @t_jh2009 @UST_Survival Tahoe seems like a good place to beat the heat! #GearMeOut

replying to @MeToddScott @MeToddScott @Todd_the_Hiker Wow. Amazing changes in weather patterns. Thanks for the explanation. #GearMeOut

replying to @MeToddScott @MeToddScott @babskiies Are you sure a duct tape life-raft is not involved? #GearMeOut
